    Hi

The lsr9434pt does not look like my whirlpool wtw5800 series. Mine has console caps which I can't figure out how to remove. I do not see any phillips screws on the top of the console. The machine is a direct drive with the metal back extending from the top of the console to the bottom of the machine. I know the switch is broken as I can feel it move around when I touch it. It's like the bracket holding the switch in place is broken. Anyhow, any help with opening this beast would be appriciated. Also, when I do get it open, is there any downside to just shorting across the switch so it's constantly overted, besides the obvious????? thanx for all doug

Aborcass, not trying to steal your thunder here...To remove the console, slide a putty knife under the front corner on either side of the console and push straight in while lifting up. This should release the retaining clips that hold the console to the top of the washer.

Look over the top of the control panel look straight down you see 2 phillips head screws on either side youll need to remove, the console will flip back giving you access to the switch..just for curiosity its not "clicking" when you close the lid therefore it fills and stops, doesnt spin or drain???? try this first.open the lid all the way, the left side hinge acts as the plunger for the switch.. feel under there open and close lid a little to help find the metal hinge. after finding the hinge place a 1/4 nutdriver(doesnt matter the size just needs a hollow shaft.) over the protruding portion of the hinge. still under the top but right there! when its on push the driver back(in essence bending hte armature back slightly). itll flex a bit as you push the hinge the door will push back(you got the right spot then). after you crank it back a bit try closing the lid now. did you hear it click??? your golden!!!!!!! no need to change.. reason for telling you this is for the most part the switch doesnt go bad but the lid /hinge isnt bent enough to make contact, and over time of swinging top into the fully opened position it actually bends to far forward to make contact. i have a box full of switched that other techs ordered and weren't needed. not saying they dont go bad ive seen that, but try this first might get lucky!!!!

Locate and remove the 2 screws that secure the console to the cabinet top. Tilt the console back, and remove the 2 gold clips, and disconnect the lid switch connector. Tilt the entire cabinet forward, and off of the base. The lid switch can now be replaced

Hi. How do you get to the lid switch on a Maytag

You must remove the rear control panel housing...
Remove some clips - and then remove the basin surround.
Here is a video that will help you out without having to type out the entire instructions. It is a general instructional that covers just about all the manufacturers.

Is it easy to replace the lid switch on a whirlpool Imperial ultimate ii washer

you have to remove 2 screws and flip the console back, then pop 2 gold clips and unplug the switch harness. The switch is under the cabinet top. Easy for those who have done it many times but not impossible for the DIYer

Kenmore Washer works but does not spin. I am sure it is just a relay switch, same thing happened to my mom's. I just don't know how to open the machine. I think I could figure out how to replace the...

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Newer model Whirlpool / Kenmore washers use a Lid Switch as a safety device. Unless the switch senses that the lid on the washer is closed, the washer will neither agitate nor spin.

Older models only used the switch during the spin cycle.

Try to bypass the Lid Switch by removing the Console and jumping the two outermost pins on the switch.

Following is a description of how to release the console for access to the pins.

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=137

This is a Whirlpool PDF on how these washers operate. It has a diagram on jumping the switch as well as a detailed section on how the transmission works.

https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/f7e2147fa98b28cf85257122007475cb/$FILE/L-55.pdf

It also has a troubleshooting guide.

To bypass the switch, you only have to disconnect the power to the washer, tilt the console back, unplug the switch and using an short piece of insulated wire, jump the two outermost contacts on the connector coming from the console and plug the washer back in.

Following is a description of how to gain access to the console and how to remove the cabinet if necessary.

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=131&osCsid=913ba652cd504fb162f87d892bcb427b

With the jumper in place, try to re-start the washer.

If it works, the Lid Switch is a relatively inexpensive part.

WHIRLPOOL LSB6000PQ0, FILLS BUT DOES NOT DRAIN, THINKING THE TIMER NEEDS REPLACEMENT?

Slide a old CD under the left and right front corners of the control console to release cabinet clips. Fold the console to the rear of the machine. Unplug the lid switch plug at the connector. Take a volt meter set for continuity and place the leads in the lid switch connector. Open and close the lid. If you have continuity the lid switch is good and you should replace the timer. If you have no continuity replace the lid switch.

Replace lid switch assembly kaws850

The following link explains how to replace a lid switch:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385199-replacing_lid_switch_whirlpool_top

On the particular model you have listed, the lid switch should be located under the console near the right rear lid hinge.

You will need to use the steps in the link provided to remove the exterior case to access the switch to see how the actuator and lid hinge interface. You washer is manufactured by Whirlpool and uses Whirlpool parts, so these instructions will apply.

This is a very simple repair, but if you have any questions along the way, please let me know. I hope this is helpful to you.

NOTE: If you have not pruchased a new lid switch yet, the part number is 8054980. It can be purchased at appliancepartspros.com for about $18.

Whirlpool washer not spining clothes

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. If the washer isn't spinning then it might be due to a Lid switch or due to a bad motor coupler. You can check for the lid switch & replace it--

First unplug the washing machine. Then remove the two screws that hold the top console in place; these are located in back of the main console (where the dials are). Once removed, the entire console swivels back, exposing the wires underneath.

After this unplug the wiring harness that is connected to the washing machine top flat surface. Now remove the two s-shaped brackets with a screwdriver by prying underneath. This will allow you to remove the main sheet metal frame around the washing machine. The lid switch assembly is located under the top console. Now, remove it and replace with the new assembly and put it back together.

Please do rate the solution and revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

Whirlpool mod wtw5850sw0 washer filled with water then stopped...will not re-start..checked power ok

Check your lid switch.

If the washer fills and doesn't do anything, or stops right after the wash cycle and then does not advance to the rinse cycle and drain, this is commonly caused by a lid switch malfunction. The lid switch is usually mounted under the washer top casing, on the right hand side on most top load models. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid (called a "Lid Strike") through a small hole on the rim of the wash tub opening. In many cases the lid strike breaks off the lid, or the lid switch becomes loose and no longer makes contact. Inspect the lid to make sure the lid strike is still intact, and then inspect the mounting screws (adjacent to the small opening on the wash tub rim) and make sure they are snug.

If the switch is not activated by a lid strike, it will activated by a hinge actuator located next to either the left or right lid hinge. You will need to remove the operator console in order to access this type of switch.

NOTE: On this type of lid switch the lig hinge has a small rod that is used as an acutator to toggle the switch. In many cases, you can adjust the rod by bending it if the switch is not making contact.

If you determine the switch to be defective, the following link explains how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385198-replacing_lid_switch

The part number for your lid switch is 8318084. It can be purchased on line at searspartsdirect.com, pcappliancerepair.com, repairclinic.com, appliancepartspros.com. All these sites offer competitive pricing, so shop all of them for the best price.

This is a very simple repair, that usually costs about $15 to $25 to repair yourself. If you have questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.
