my dell does not recognize the battery, it informs me of this at startup and I cannon operate the computer without having it plugged into the wall.

OK, now what, I've read advice to go to the control panel and verify that the battery is there, and it's not!???

Other advice says that it must be dead and needs replacing. ANd like so many others, Iam just recently out of Warranty. Is there anything else I can do to save the battery, before I switch to an Apple laptop??

Hi, I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop, model no. PP23LA. My problem is that the system does not recognise the power adaptor/charger & will not charge the battery. The laptop will run with the power...

If the battery is not charging, the problem is most likely the battery...not the charger. Check around to see if you can get a battery replacement I think would be your best course of action. If you have a friend with a model laptop with the same battery you could always "test out the scenario" before purchasing one.

Good Luck

try to remove the battery from the computer, after unplugging it, plug in the AC adapter without the battery and check if it will turn on. if it doesnt then 2 possible reason
1. the AC adapter is busted, you can try a known good Dell AC adapter. if its still now working with a know good AC adapter then
2. its the motherboard that needs to be replaced.
Hope this help

Inspiron 1501 charging problem

should find out why the original charger stopped working in the first place... was it a faulty mother board really. anyway if the ratings on the charger you bought are for that laptop indeed, then it should power up the laptop minus the battery. ofcourse if you put in charger minus battery, dont expect it to show the charging led..just try to power it on

My dell 1501 does not recognise its battery on start up, and does not charge the battery either

if youre battery does not charge and is not recognized by your laptop then its time to have it replaced or fixed, you will always need to plug your laptop in order for to you use it which is sometimes annoying, have it replaced

I had the battery not recognized on boot up. then

the Dell AC adapter has a sensing pin so the bios can determine the wattage of the adapter. If the system cannot ID the adapter, the battery charger circuit is disabled. You'll need a functional DELL ac adapter to get the battery to charge

DELL XPS 1210 i purchased a replacement battery not recognised

If the battery is not detected in the BIOS (F2 at boot) and doesn't show as charging, then return the battery and get a replacement.

If neither the original battery or the new replacement battery are not detected in the bios a problem with the motherboard may exist. If still under warranty, contact Dell Support for a repair, if not, then you may be investing in a new motherboard
