When I turn on the machine, Toshiba studio 16 s. it reads "call for service". Is there a button or something I need to push to get the machine started again? It was working just fine before this started to come on now.

In order to get a meter count, turn the machine completely off (including main power,) and press and hold "0" and "8" simultaneously, then power on the machine. After about 5-8 seconds of holding these keys, the machine will boot into test/service mode, and at that point you want to type "257" and "start," then the meter count will be displayed.
"Call for service" means that your unit has developed a "Problem" that can "ONLY" be fixed by the Service Centre, or taking it back to the shop, so to speak.
the c44 error is an error in the fuser if you know how to take the fuser out check for toner buld up on the thermistors.. the sensors with the thin strip that presses against the hot roller gets toner build up and cant read temp properly.. you could also try turning machine off and then on whilst pressing 1 3 and * buttons together this might reset it temporarily for you.. Good Luck A
it is hard disk trouble. First enter in service mode (pressing 08 while turn on the power) next, type 690 and set to 2, click enter and wait the "reboot the machine" message, then turn off and on again
