Sending fax I have our phone service thru earthlink cable and now when i try to send a fax it won't do it. i asked them for help and all they told me was to red their solutions which state this: Using a Fax Machine With EarthLink trueVoice Article ID: 138394 Last modified date: Fri Aug 10 11:17 2007 This article offers some guidance for customers using a fax machine with EarthLink trueVoice. Introduction There is important information that EarthLink trueVoice customers will need in order to use a fax machine over their EarthLink trueVoice line. Using a Fax Machine With EarthLink trueVoice Customers who have a DSL High Speed connnection should continue to use the telephone line that the DSL comes in on for their faxing needs.Fax machines can work with the EarthLink trueVoice service. However, the main factor influencing this is the quality of the your High Speed connection. The better the connection, the greater likelihood of a fax being sent successfully. Connection quality varies from home to home. Even time of day can influence the connection quality. Ways you may further improve faxing experience with EarthLink trueVoice: Reduce the fax machine's baud rate to 9600 Turn off Error Correction Mode (ECM) on the fax machine, if it has this feature. Use *99 function I don't even know how to reduce the baud or turn off ecm. I've looked in the manual and find no results

Wow. Digital lines are difficult to fax over. Most are still set to use analogue lines.
Those are also very odd changes. Most fax machines no longer even have a setting as low as 9600 baud.
Your fax may not have the ECM mode as changable, may just be built in, but that is not a function you normally would want to turn off. ECM is Error Correction Mode.
This honestly just sounds like a disclaimer to excuse their system's poor fax service.

Fax number does not get thru to send fax

It depends. Pardon me, but what I wanted to say is not really about this prob) just wanted to wonder why're you using fax machine? Well, I was using it also before I found out that the online services exist. I've chosen a provider for me and now have a possibility to fax from any place including mobile phone. Just access the and that's all)
So... why not the online service?

Can't send or receive faxes

it's most likely the compression on the phone line or you need to set up your fax machine for proper receive mode.
Contact your phone service provider to see if they support faxes.
(Faxes cannot handle nearly as much compression as standard voice)

I can not send or recieve faxes. Ran fax test

Cox Cable is pretty much the same as comcast's and vonage's services. HP fax machines have had HUGE compatibility issues with those types of services, and may be that they did something to their service that caused your fax to stop working.....

Other than that call HP and see if they have any troubleshooting or Diagnostics that you can run, but I ran in to these problems with HP faxes all the time while installing comcast phone service, never knew WHY it didn't work, just that HP doesn't work on that type of least certain models...Also maybe call COX and see if they did anything recently that could cause it to stop working....

2840 LaserJet All in One

If you have a digital phone service like Vonage or your ISP is a cable company that offers phone service, then you're digital as well, and your fax machine has an analog modem, the two devices will not work unless the phone company puts a filter on that will simulate the analog signal and allow the fax to oeprate normally. Call them and ask them to please initiate the digital filter for your line. I wish HP would come out with a digital modem so the problem can be solved for us $800 all in one customers can use our fax machines again. HP's image is getting worse and worse with lack of solutions, and high dollar fixes they leave up to the customer. A modem swap out should be given to the customers who bought this item and was not told the modem was analog. HP won't do it, they only see $ signs these days.

How can send fax thru internet

You can not send faxes thru the internet unless you use a service such as E-Fax.
Faxes usually are sent via phone lines only.
If you are asking anything else then you have to be more precise in your question as it is not exactly clear as to what you are asking!

Good Luck!

Fax machines are ANALOG devices and are designed to have their own dedicated phone line. They will not work reliably on DIGITAL phone lines.

Receiving a fax

Faxes fail intermittently or with only one fax number
  • If static is present on the phone line, fax communication may fail. Have the phone line checked and serviced by the telephone company (or have the other party check their line). Phone line quality is the most common reason for intermittent fax failures. Some older locations and buildings have inadequate phone system wiring.
  • If you are trying to send a color fax and it fails, try sending the same machine a black and white fax. Normally the fax will detect that the other fax is not color capable and will offer you the option to send the fax as black and white but this might not always be the case. Do not send color faxes unless you know the other fax machine is capable of receiving color faxes.
  • Check the phone cable from the wall jack to the fax. It should not be coiled or longer than necessary. Coiling the cable can cause cross talk or echo on the line. Signal strength and quality can be lost with long cables.
  • Make sure the phone cable routing (and any cables not plugged into the same jack but sharing the same line) is not near any electrical appliances (electric motors, fans, kitchen appliances, or televisions). Many of these devices do not have sufficient electrical shielding and can induce electro-magnetic force (EMF) onto the phone line. Computers are usually shielded sufficiently and do not cause this problem.
  • Do not use a call-waiting service on the same line connected to the fax machine. The click sound caused by an incoming call can cause the fax to fail.
  • You can block certain faxes on some models. Verify that the telephone number of the sending fax is not blocked in the faxing software. This is usually located in the Fax History.
