Washer smells burning, and is WAY off balance... HELP

Hi- i really hope you can help. I have 3 boys, lots of dirty clothese, and a problem.
I have a kenmore washing machine, model 110-24642300 , top loading machine. I think we got it back in '05. Anyway, we have a few issues with it. It has been off balance for some time now (even when clothes are evenly distributed, no blankets etc). When it is on spin, it thumps so hard, it disconects the hose- more than any normal imbalance would do. Also, when you look inside when it is doing that (yes, it is does spin during the spin cycle) the drum is WAY off center, and can be moved around by hand. Obviously, our clothese are very wet when we are done.
Also, two more things, one, this is strange, but our washing machine stinks! No idea why.
The last, is that lately we have notices a burning rubber/fire smell when it reaches the spin cylce. Any ideas? Is it worth fixing, or replacing? (We dont remember how much we paid for it) Thanks for your help.

If you are handy at fixing such things it is not too terribly hard to fix, but you will need to remove the drum. Hopefully, it is just a worn belt, you will also want to check the clutch, motor pulley and motor coupler. The motor coupler can also produce the burnt smell and the wet clothing. I would say it is definitely worth fixing. Get an estimate and go from there .

I have a burning smell coming from my LG front load washer. I googled it,it says it's the bearings. Which would be easier? Buying a different drum with bearings already pressed in or doing my own?

Holly, always easier to buy an assembly, but probably a lot more expensive. If you can remove bearing and take to a industrial supplier and get matching bearing, the cost would be a fraction of that of a new drum assy. If you or a friend can do it, go for it.
You may want to get a second opinion on what you are smelling, it very well could be the drum rubbing gasket if it is a burning rubber smell.Maybe call a good appliance Tech. have them diagnose and estimate repair. Check LG washer bearing link below.

Electrical/Rubber odor after complete cycle

You have a drum roller that has a frozen bearing and needs to be replaced. The rubber smell is the wheel burning up.

Hello, In most cases when you have a burning smell a simple fix is your lint lines are dirty. A lot of time when your filter or your hose that goes out the back (by the wall) gets dirty it gets hot and starts to burn. There have been some cases where it will catch on fire, so always make sure lint filter and hoses are clean. Other forms of burning smell can be the dryer belt is waring out or loose, Kind of link when a vacuum cleaner belt gets worn and starts slipping and burning rubber smell. AND Finally could be the main barring that could be going out.

My advice start with simplest first, check vents and lint filter and go from there.

I hope this helps Mike.

Washer off balance, all parts check out. Is there a counter weight or buffer in the motor that could cause this, off balance with clothes or manually without clothese

The motor has no influence on balance--that is all taken up by the outer drum support mechanism--which consists of support springs, shock absorbers of some sort, and associated brackets to hold the parts. Open the case top to check--shake the outer drum in various directions to see if something is loose or broken. There is usually a heavy mass of some sort affixed to the outer drum to help damp out vibration. Remove the back panel to check underneath as well. Hope this helps!

Kenmore series 90 washing machine clunking and burning smell

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:!retrieve.pd?pop=true&modelNumber=110.26902691

See the section on the Machine Base.

There are a number of balance springs and vibration pads that help keep the tub from vibrating and going out of balance.

It's possible that one or more of these is broken, loose or damaged.

Following is a description of how to remove the cabinet to get access to them.

Also see the Whirlpool Service Manual for their direct drive washers.$FILE/L-55.pdf

For the vibration, I'd check the springs and vibration pads.

While you have the cabinet off, I'd pull the pump and motor and check the Motor Coupler. This could be the cause of the "burning smell"

You will need to have it checked by a qualified LG technician to see what is the deal with the burning odor.  And the noise is probably the washer not balanced correctly.
