Question about Vacuums

1 Answer

Vacuum Power Probelms.

Vacuum would not power off and now will not power on. I've read where people have a similar problem and take it in for repair but I am more interested into what specifically caused this problem. Thanks.

Thanks. I was thinking the switch but then I wasn't sure if the problem was related to the power board that the switch cable connects to.

The on/off switch won't turn off. I have to unplug my vacuum to stop it. This has happened previously (2 times) and something I did (don't know what) made it start working again. This time I can't seem to get it to turn off no matter what I do.

Sounds like a problem with a switch. They do go back, but if this is your problem, don't know without checking it.

Have them replace at the Aerus Electrolux shop. Aerus uses a higher grade plastic (Lexan, read about it on the net) which should last the life of the the power nozzle and wands. The part and labor will have a 1 year warranty.

Kenmore Powermate power head not working

I've got the same problem. Try checking out the electrical connection where the hose attaches to the canister. The hot male terminal is corroded and the female socket is burned out. Its an unfortunate design flaw that every time you open the vacuum to replace the bag the electrical connection disconnects and reconnects. Not sure if I can find replacement parts for a 10 year old vacuum or if a home-made re-wiring job is in order. Will find out tomorrow.

No suction of the water from carpet after soap is applied

Hello :

1: A vacuum pulls air through the bag, then through the tube attachment and then through the base (with the spinning agitator brush).

2:Check for signs of suction. Remove the tube attachment from its cradle and, after turning on the vacuum, put your hand to the end of the tube. Is there any suction at all? If there is a little bit of suction then you may have a clogged air tube.

3:Check the vacuum bag. It may be very full. If it is then remove the bag and replace it with a new bag. Check the suction power again. Has the suction improved?

4:Check the tube attachment. Completely remove it from the vacuum. You usually have to twist and pull the tube attachment out of place at the point where it connects to the back of the vacuum. Check the suction power again. This time you place your hand on the vacuum right where the tube used to come out of the back of the vacuum. Has the suction improved?

5:If the suction power has improved then you probably have a clogged tube. Dog hair, people hair, leaves and more can get lodged in the tube slowly over time and then suddenly block the tube completely.

6:Clean the tube by first trying to shake the debris out of the tube. If this does not work then go outside and run a hose through the tube. Use a pressure nozzle if you have one. Run the hose through one end of the tube. Then run it through the other end. Repeat until the debris is disloged. Dry the tube and then reattach to the vacuum.

7:Has suction power improved or returned to normal power? If yes then you can stop reading now. If not then read on.

8:Check the air hose in the base of the vacuum. This hose is usually pretty short and you can see if there is any blockage. If you see blockage then try to remove it. You may need to reach into the hose with a tool (like a screw driver or something long).

9:Has suction power improved or returned to normal power? If yes then you can stop reading now. If not then read on.

10:If you made it to this step then you may have a problem with the motor on your vacuum. If this is the case then you will need to take the vacuum in to a repair shop.

Things you will need :
1 Philips screw driver
1 flat head screw driver

Warning :

# Always unplug electrical devices before you work on them.

# Never work on electrical devices around water or when you are wet.

I hope this will help .

Need to get to the beater bar

Hello,

You're in luck! I actually just finished up writing a repair solution for this exact problem! Just like I said in my previous answer, you may want to try pushing the reset button first, especially if the power nozzle will not make any noise when you turn it to the carpet setting. If you have the model that's pictured above, then the two screws to your model are actually on the bottom of the power nozzle, not on the top.

Here's what you'll need to replace a belt on a Kenmore2_bing.gif canister vacuum:

- Phillips Head Screw Driver
- Flat Head Screw Driver

Here's the link to the Fixya repair I just did for a similar Sears Kenmore canister. The only difference is that your reset button is going to be a very small red pole on the top of the power nozzle, and the screws you'll need to remove are on the bottom of the power nozzle, not the top like the blue one I took pictures of in the repair. Everything else will be identical. I hope this helps you!

http://www.fixya.com/support/t4499227-need_replace_belt_in_kenmore_vacuum

If you don't hear the power nozzle motor come on when you change the hose from Floors to Carpeting, this either means the reset switch needs to be pushed, or that you have a bad hose that needs to be replaced.

If you would like help on how to diagnosis the electric hose to see if it's bad, please just use the Clarification Request here on Fixya. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask me, I'm always more then happy to answer follow up questions. If this repair was helpful to you, please be sure to rate it as helpful by clicking the thumbs up icons at the top of the repair.

Thank you very much,

Chris J.

try checking for blockages first, turn the foot of the vaccuum over and check the inlet tube, there may be a little flap that needs to be pulled forward for you to see if there is a blockage.

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. I am not familiar with the light system on the Miele Revolution 5000 Power Plus

But it has something to do with the electronic hose assm or the circuitry in the vacuum itself. I have listed the factory phone # listed below for your further information. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
