The most common reason is either a dirty or bad Optical Pickup unit in the player which is what reads the disc, and you will get no disc, cannot read disc etc.
MY dvd writer is reading DVD disks sometime and somtimes it could not making any response.what is the problem about this i dont know how to fix this problem.

DVD-RW= Can write CD and DVD
DVD-R= Can only read DVD's
CD-R= Can only read cd's.
CD-RW- Can write CD's only.
can you play a music cd? if not, your probably missing the audio cable that hooks between the player and the motherboard or soundcard ( if a separate card is installed )
