Looking for some help. I've got a Toro Z4200, Problem is most of the time I try to start it it starts to turn over then seems to lock up. Almost like the battery is low. I keep trying and it will start a few minutes later. I noticed while checking the oil that it is very thin and smells heavily of gas. I changed oil and filter and gas keeps getting into the oil somehow. Once in a while when mowing the mower loses power and spits out a huge cloud of white smoke. What are some ways that gas could be getting into the oil. Thanks for any and all help.

There is only one way gas can get into the oil. if someone is pouring it into the crankcase...good luck

no, there is another way....I had the same problem, seemed like it was locked up, then when it started, the black smoke rolled! I had to rebuild the carb; gas not shutting off at the float needle. Until I got to the rebuild I installed a manual shut off in the gas line between the tank and the carb. I had to reach right in behind the tire on the left side to reach the valve, but it wasn't that hard. When I was finished for the day I shut the gas off at that manual valve, and I had no gas problem or "locking up" problem. I still have the valve on there in case I need it again.

Toro z4200 won't start it clicks at the electric cluch

be sure pto is off, park brake is on, and control arms are out. If it wont start check that the click is not coming from the start solenoid. If the start solenoid is clicking it either has a low battery, bad ground at solenoid or solenoid needs to be replaced.

The motion control levers became tight to move and

You may have some bent or out of adjustment linkages, causing the brakes to stay on.
Or the friction nut (one on each transmission) is too tight. These are located just in front of the axel, they go through a slot, the washer behind the nut should turn freely

Toro TimeCutter z4200 will not start

First check to see if there is a fuel shutoff under the tank. On some models there is a fuel filter screen inside the tank where the fuel line connects to the tank. If niether of these work, R&R the carb.

Dual blade mower leaves uncut strips between blades.

Had same uneven mowing problem with new Toro Z4200 XTR mower. Problem was one side of the U-shaped rear deck hanger rod had popped out of its chassis mount (did hit something with mowing deck). Removed hanger chassis mount & its bolt. Put end of U-shaped rear deck hanger rod back in the chassis mount and remounted hanger chassis mount & its bolt. Z4200 now cuts lawn evenly again.
