My subwoofers will only play at extremely low volume

My subwoofers will only play at extremely low noise levels. They were playing fine and then in the middle of the song, the cut out, as if the power to them stopped, yet amp is working fine. If I turn down the volume all the way you can feel the subwoofers playing slightly. Answers?

Most of the time it's 2 things, first thing is a section on the PCB has burned out and this leave you with very little power going to your speaker, This is common by using incorrect wiring or peaking the amp all the time, You can start by pulling the PCB out and looking for any physical damage, If there is some you can solder a connection with copper wire. The second thing is blowing your finals, This happens when one side of the bridge for the PNP NPN transistor section blows out usually on the on position and this can send a dead short to your other final transistor. they will be in pairs of usually starting with A,B,C,D and a number grouping. This is next to impossible to fix.

2003 Chevy Cavalier. My radio will only play radio extremely low volume. What could it be please?

There are a number of reasons which are explained in the link. The most likely is a faulty volume control, but it could also be high voltage and the protection circuit.

Popping noise on my 12" type r subs

The subs are making that sound when the bottom out + when they reach full excursion be careful if it keeps happening eventually your subs will fail because you will end up damaging the subs voice coil.

My subwoofer on my philips 5.1 speaker system is constantly generating lots of bass noise even on mute.

I assume you are using XP. Try these steps.
1. Open 'Sound and Audio devices' in Control Panel.
2. Select 'Advanced...' button near bottom. b2053f1.jpg

3. Select 5.1 system 972ed04.jpg

4. Start playing a sound.
5. Set the volume control of the subwoofer to the middle position.
6. Open volume control and adjust Master volume to a comfortable level (i.e. until there is no hum).

Also make sure you haven't muted any sound device except microphone. I think your problem is you have set it to the maximum level. So decrease it.
7. Mute the sound and check.
Good luck! Let us know the result.

I have just bought an Acer 7730 t5800 laptop. I am in the sound test and no noise comes from the subwoofer on the test. I have read it is for low noise, should I hear anything during the test?

Sure you should when they are talking about low noise they are talking about filters to keep electrical noise out. Is there a seperate volume control on your sub woofer i know mine does. To be able to adjust how much bass you want.

Sleep mode

It will power off if the frequency range of the signal being sent to it is set too low, or the amplitude of the signal is too low as well.

Try increasing the subwoofer crossover frequency and/or increase the gain from the LFE/SUB of the receiver/preamp you have it connected to. Also make sure that in the setup menus of ALL of your components have an LFE channel enabled such as by selecting the output of source material of your DVD player for example, to output 5.1. Otherwise, it will not send a signal for the subwoofer to play, nor will it play the signal if the crossover frequency is set too low.

Example; the setting on your DVD player setup menu is set to two channel: result with only one exception, subwoofer will not play

Example; subwoofer/LFE level on receiver/preamp set to -10dB and/or subwoofer volume too low. Result: subwoofer will not play.

Example; subwoofer crossover point set at 35Hz. Source material playing sound at 30Hz and lower. Result: subwoofer will not play.

Noise from speakers when playing basses

Hi,

Offhand, could either be the subwoofer speaker itself or the electronics (amp and/or crossover). One way to determine is by physcially checking the sub speaker. When playing with bass on, pls try restricting speaker movement by pressing on it and see if the noise is reduced. Another is to temporarily replace the speaker. You can try speakers meant for the car, home entertainment or book shelf, just dont set the volume too high.

If the speakers are ruled out, then it would be the electronics inside. For this, you would need familiairty with electronic components and circuittry, a DVM and a soldering iron. Access to an oscilloscope and an audio signal generator would be nice but not a necessity. The idea is to inject a constant audio signal and determine where the noise (if electronic) is coming from. In most instances, it would be a leaky electrolytic capacitor either in the input stage or feedback loop. At other times, it would be also a capacitor in the band pass filter.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
