The battery is soldered to the main PCB.
If you use too much heat - you will damage the unit.
Everything is in tight quarters - so it is adviseable to return to garmin for repairs for a flat fee - or take it to an experienced (and insured) electronics repair shop to have the battery matched and replaced.

Go to gamin site and download and install the latest software and firmware if any. To download WebUpdater and update the software:

  1. Go to http://www8.garmin.com/products/webupdater/howtoinstall.jsp
  2. Follow the on screen instructions.
To perform a master reset on your nuvi 1000 series device:

Warning: A master reset will erase all waypoints or favorites and will restore your unit to the default factory settings.
  1. Start with the unit OFF and unplugged from power
  2. Touch and hold the lower right corner of the screen with an index finger or the eraser end of a pencil
  3. Continue touching and holding the lower right hand corner of the screen then power the unit ON
  4. Release the power button when the device powers ON
  5. Remove your finger from the touchscreen when the message ‘Do you really want to erase all user data?’ appears
  6. Touch Yes
The device will now be reset and you should no longer experience the freezing issue.

  • Connect your satnav to your computer
  • Go to www.garmin.com
  • Select your country from the drop-down list
  • Click on the myGarmin tab at the top of the page
  • Click on "Register your garmin device"
  • Select automotive and follow the prompts
You'll be asked to create a username and password. Keep them safe as you'll need them if you want to update your maps in future.

Perhaps nothing.

Does the GPS turn on and go into usb mode when plugged into your MAC? If not, it is probably a driver issue if the GPS works normally in your vehicle. You might try the Communicator Plugin for MAC. https://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=3739

Going back to the security location will unlock the unit but in order to reset the pin code, the original pin code must be input.
To unlock the unit, it must be sent back to Garmin.

Try giving your unit a firmware update using Garmins WebUpdater software, it can be obtained from this link http://www8.garmin.com/products/webupdater/howtoinstall.jsp. If this dosent work your units GPS receiver is probably dead and should be sent in for repair.

Hello,

The nuvi 13xx 14xx series had problems with the firmware bricking the unit, if you are unable to connect to the PC and update the firmware with Garmins WebUpdater it will have to be sent out for warranty.

The lane assist will automatically appear in the upper left corner of the screen when it is available. There is nothing you have to do to activate it.
