go to contro panel --> hardware --> device manager

Look at the list if you can find your CDR device, and if you see a big yellow question mark there.

If yes, it means you need to reinstall your driver.

    What is your computer?

    What is your driver?

Reinstall your driver with the CD provided alongwith your PC while purchase.

If problem persist, then check your CD drive lens.. it would have gone out.. This may be the reason your CD drive could not get detect..

Drivers not working. Can not play any dvd,cd's.Its been about a week. Reinstalled drivers on Help and Support, but still not working. Any Ideas?

When you say Drivers not working, can you please confirm if you are referring to the CD Drives ?

If yes you can first make sure that the Drives are detected in Windows Explorer.

Click on Start Then click on "Computer" or "My Computer"

See if the CD / DVD drive is detected

If the drive is detected in Explorer and not able to read the discs, try various discs of different brands.

If none of the disc is readable then the Drive is gone back and you will need to replace it.

In case the Drive is not detected in the Windows Explorer then you can check if the device is detected the Device Manager.

To open device manager Press the Windows key + R and type devmgmt.msc

Press Enter of click OK

It will open the device manager

look under CD/DVD drive if there is any yellow exclamation mark.

If you see the Drive listed with an Exclamation then follow the steps to delete lower filter and upper filter from the Windows registry Editor.

Cd not working on my compaq laptop .spins then cuts out

Hello there,

Now what I understand is that, you have the CD seated inside the drive and it starts rotating and then it stop's, Lets try the possible steps to get the issue resolved.

Now another important thing is that, you will need to check with another CD not a DVD to see if that works and based on what you have posted, we kind of come to a conclusion that it might be a problem with the Drive itself, so please check and see if it can read a CD, Once you are done performing the step try using a LENSE cleaner and see if that resolves the issue.

Now once you find that you DVD drive reads CD but not a DVD we can say that the hardware itself has a problem, However if it does not read any of the Disks then there is an issue with the lense and please use a lense cleaner as adviced. If not please check for the step's below to check the drivers.

Now the first thing is to check if the drivers for the device is workinf fine.

Go to my computer, which should be in start or you might have it on you r desktop aswell.

Right click on my computer, go to properties, and then in the hardware tab you will find device manager.
or
The easiest way is to use the run command, That is go to start- run- type- devmgmt.msc and key in ENTER, you should see device manager.
or
Right click on My computer- Click on manage- Then select device manager from the list of options you will see on the LHS( Left hand side).

Now Presuming we have reached Device Manager, The next step to be performed is to check if you have the CD/ DVD drive working effitiently or not, How we can do it is by following the step's below:

Go to Disk drivers on to the right hand side of the window and expand disk drivers and check if it has a yellow or a black exclamatory mark on it, Well if it does,

Go to ACTION and scan for hardware changes, Result will indicate what exactly is the problem.

Most of the time it is never a problem with the drivers for CD/ DVD drive but still no harm in checking for it as a last option.

Optiarc cd-rw crx880a ata device: This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Did you try to click "Troubleshoot" on the page that reported "cannot start" ?

Did you try to click on the device, and choose "uninstall" ?
Then, rebooting Windows should cause Windows to "find new hardware", and properly configure the DVD/CD drive.
