Question about Bogen Communication Bogen Manfrotto 3047 Delux 3-Way Pan Head Tripod

1 Answer

Bogen Manfrotto 3047 head

I have had this tripod for years but do not use it all that often.  I don not have the manual and find that the quick release head isn't intuitive to use. I know that the camera screws onto the piece and the knob underneath turns the screw to attach the camera.  However, each time I use the tripod, I have trouble getting the screw to "lock" and secure the camera properly. Also, I haven't the foggiest idea how to quick release the camera even if I have it locked onto the plate.
Can someone assist me with this?  Can you explain, exactly how the screw mechanism locks? And how the lever releases the plate?
Your help would be much appreciated.

Dear spiderinkart,
To get the camera to secure properly to the release plate make sure that the bolt is screwed entirely into the camera bottom and then there should be a larger knob that rotates around the bolt that tightens down to the camera body. What I do to get a really tight fit is point the arrow on the bottom of the release plate labeled lens (that arrow when properly mounted should be pointed towards the front of the lens) to a 45 degree angle to the left of the lens, then I snug down the knob, and then I grab the release plate and turn it until the lens arrow is aligned with the front of the lens. As far as quick releaseing the camera from the legs when secured on the release plate you should be able to pull the lever away from the head and it should simply release the camera with the plate attached.

Sincerely,
Agent Allan

How do you get the head off the tripod?

There are three small set screw (grub screws) that are under the head, net to the center column. You will have to raise the center column and look under the head. These are slotted screw heads and a small to medium screwdriver should work. You don ot have to remove the grub screws completely, but you should back them out at least half way. The head will unscrew off the center column. The gray part below the head is half the head attachment and half the center column end plate so it should separate in the middle line between the two.
