Question about LG 42PX5D 42 in. Plasma HDTV

1 Answer

Sound Issue I have a 42 inch LG plasma. I believe the surround sound is flicking on an off and is varying the level of sound on my tv. Can I control this to make the sound constant? The problem is most evident when listening to music.

I have a LG plasma, do i need a optical digital audio out cord to use surround sound?

In order to get true 5.1 surround sound you need to use either digital optical (fiber optic) cord or digital coax cord(RCA style ends) to link between your TV and your digital source such as DVD,digital cable box, digital satelitte receiver. You can route the audio through the TV but that's not the best way to go,I recommend going directly from the digital source to your surround sound receiver for optimum sound. Good luck !

Intermittent audio loss with 42 inch 2007 Sharp HD( not plasma) TV. Happens 2-4 times/hour for a second or two during most HD programs. It has gotten more frequent over the past month. We have...

Are you running the sound directly from the DirecTV box to the Onkyo reciever? or is it routed through the TV first? Personally if you have it routed through the TV you are losing out on true 5.1 surround. To ge that you need to have the DirecTV box connected via optical or digital output (orange connector) to your Onkyo amplifier. If you need further assistance please email me at tvtek(at)msn.com

Most likely your Y Sustain panel has gone bad. I would have a qualified service center evaluate it to be sure.

This is almost certainly the device that sends electricity to the the plasma in the panel after failing. Bring to your local repair shop and expect to pay 300-400 parts and 100-200 labour.

Most likely what happened is one of the capacitors went bad. When a capacitors goes bad it produces a popping sound. This could be an easy and cheap fix if you find the bad capacitor or capacitors. The bad capacitor will have a bulging top most likely on the power board but could be anywhere.
