Question about Philips 55PW9363 55" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

Phillips DPTV335 colors out of alignment

On my Phillips DPTV335 HD ready TV, the red blue & green are out of alignment & it looks like the old 3d colors. I've tried adjusting the coverage & multipoint coverage, but it appears the TV is so far out of alignment on the red that this method does not get it back into spec. I also reset TV to factory settings & the red is still way off. In addidion to this problem, the picture is out of "keystone" in some areas. The view is curved & looks as if it were "wrapped around a fishbowl", kind of like when you adjust a CRT computer monitor. If anyone knows how to fix this or what part needs to be replaced, please help. My only other options are to buy a new TV or have a company repair both of which will cost hundreds of dollars. Thanks !!!

Color convergence lines not aligned

All projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both.

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

The site will send you the instructions to replace the ICs and the tech who is assigned to you will help you out with any questions that you need, also if you ask your tech he will more than likely send you the e-book called understanding basic electronics. The tech will walk you through the repair. That site also has the full 2000 plus page complete service manual for the entire series HDTVs that you can order and recieve in an email if you would like to order one that has a lot of info on television stand by and start up power supplies and how to trouble shoot and etc. I am not aware of any online TV repair courses but then again when you hear from your tech ask him as we go the extra distance with our customers. You may end up getting me as your support tech as I am one of the 4 techs that do the online support for them.

Philips 55PW9363 looks 3d

You need to replace both convergence ICs they are STK392-120 this is an easy repair that you can do yourself and save yourself around 400.00 for about 45 minutes work. You can order the new ICs at the following link and they provide free installation instructions with pictures and also free online support with a support tech while you do the repair. I am one of their support techs. You would also want to order at least 4 convergence resistors and they send the proper ones for your model as often a couple resistors go. Your model uses 6.8ohm 2watt 5% metal film resistors. So to recap you will need (2) STK392-120 Convergence ICs and (4) Convergence ICs . very inexspensive repair if you do it yourself. here is the link.
