Question about Dryers

1 Answer

My dryer had a power surge and kicked out my circuit breakers out twice. My light in my dryer went out. The light is located on the top of the opening of the dryer. I replaced it with a new bulb, but it still won't come on. Is there a fuse somewhere that has to be replaced. My dryer is almost 2 years old. Thank you Linda

Depending on your dryer make and model, you may have a thermal limiter or a high temp fuse that went out. Also, you may need to look into new thermostat for it. If I had the make and model of the dryer, I'd be able to be more specific.

Is there a reset button for Frigidaire AEQ7000EGO? Had a power surge/outage and now dryer has no power, although plugged into electrical outlet.

Good Morning Friend,

I understand you had a power surge at your home, and now your Frigidaire Affinity dryer, model#, AEQ7000EGO, has no power. I do see that you have checked to make sure that it is plugged in. I suggest checking the circuit breaker or fuse that the dryer is on. Make sure that the fuse is not blown or the breaker tripped. I ask that you please follow up with a comment on the post, at your convenience, to advise if further troubleshooting is needed or if your appliances status has changed successfully. Hope this is helpful.

-Best Regards-

We have had issues with our dryers circuit breaker kicking off and getting heated. About 8 months ago we had a power surge in our home and it messed up a number of appliances but we thought the dryer was...

The two items in a dryer that draws the most amperage is the motor and the heater element. Since the heat element normally either opens or is okay, it is doubtful that is the problem. Unless one of the insulators is damaged and shorting to the base.

But before you start replacing things, suggest you use a clamp on amp meter and see if the dryer is drawing more current than what the breaker is rated at. If it is then the dryer has the problem, if it isn't the problem is in the circuit breaker box.

Dryer won't turn on after circuit breaker kicked out and the light bulb inside the dryer shattered.

Im going out on a limb here and say ... the breaker popped - your light exploded ... it will not start. You took a big surge hit and probably smoked the timer.

Unplug the machine - remove the back or the top to gain access to the wiring. With your volt/ohm meter start checking contunity particularly with the timer. The timer is only a switch, you know this right? When you are satisfied with your contunity checks, plug it in and scheck for voltages.

Good luck

Dryer won't start. Circuit breaker kicked out light bulb in dryer was shattered.

it may be the control board, when lights burn out they surge and this can destroy a control board, I looked up your dryer # to see what control board it uses and it comes up as a refrigerator, you may want to recheck the model #

Maytag 3000 Series front load gas dryer (Whirlpool) - No lights, no digital display, not able to turn on or start. Yes, unit is plugged in to AC outlet. Yes, AC voltage is good at 120V. Yes, circuit...

OK everyone, my ears are red. Over the weekend, I gave this another shot, since my warranty repair appointment isn't until next week.

I opened the dryer door (the drum light is off, indicating no power at all) and went to the circuit breaker box, and flipped the washer/dryer breaker back to off and then re-set the breaker again.

When I got to the laundry room - the drum light was on!

So I powered up the unit, and ran the machine. It ran for about one minute, and then went off. So I went back and re-set the breaker again.

Visually, the breakers did NOT LOOK tripped - but flipping the thing off and then on to re-set the breaker worked.

This time, the dryer is working fine. The bad part is: I need to replace the breaker for the second time. So this is NOT a defective dryer, it is a bad electrical supply. I will call the electrician back to make him fix this right. . . . .

Thanks again for all who responded. This is a new unit, purchased on 7/7/2009.

Kenmore Dryer (Model 110.84834201) won't start after power surge

The dryer has a few fuses. I will give the best website I have found it gives diagrams and part pictures for all appliances. I have ordered from them many times and always got the right part. Go to The fuses on the dryer are very easy to change and you can get the parts in only a day or two.

Power surge and breaker went off, turned it back on and washer comes on but not the dryer, is there a reset button

The dryer is on a different circuit as it is 240 volts. Look in your breaker box and find the breaker for it (it should be tripped half way). Turn it completely off and then back on. There is no reset button for it. Make sure the plug is securely pushed all the way into the outlet.

Gas stove stopped working

Hi . I would begin by pulling the stove out and making sure it is plugged in. If it is, unplug it and plug something else into the plug like a blow dryer to make sure you have power to that outlet. If there is no power, you have either blown a fuse or kicked a circuit breaker. Go to your electrical panel to replace the fuse or reset the circuit breaker. good luck.
