Question about Panasonic PT-40LC12 40" Rear Projection HDTV
How do you reset the lamp meter on the PT-40LC12 ?
I just had my picture go out two weeks ago. I took it to a local tv repair shop. They replaced the thermal fuse. I also had a spare lamp so they also replaced that. I'm not sure if they reset the lamp meter but this is what I found surfing around...try at your own risk. I'm going to try this when I go home tonight.
Press the power button to turn the unit on.
While pressing the Vol-(volume down) button on the projection display,
hold down the PIP button on the remote control at the same time for more
than 5 seconds. When the reset procedure is complete the following message
will appear on the screen. "Lamp time was reset to 0".

Thank you to the gentleman whom posted this question and to all those whom gave a suggestion.
I solved my Panasonic PT-40LC12 T.V.'s problem.
I installed the ebay-bought lamp in the old housing. Installed the housing. Installed the cover plate and then the cover trim. T.V. turned on.
I then cleared the display with the recall button on the remote. I used the T.V.'s "vol -" button to turn the sound all the way down. I pushed and held the "vol -" button again and one second later pushed and held the "PP/Play" button. The volume meter disappeared and a display saying "The lamp meter has been reset to 0" then appeared. The problem's resolved. Thank you.

I purchased a new bulp from bluestar-online.com and the following directions came with it:
1. Push the power button to turn on the TV.
2. While pressing and holding down VOL- button on the TV, press and hod down SPLIT PLAY button on the remote until a message appears on the screen that the lamp timer has been reset.
I have replaced the bulb before and did reset the lamp meter but for some reason it is not working this time. This time I purchased the lamp only and installed it in the old housing. The instructions came with the bulb. Ended up saving $150. The tv comes on fine but for some reason the lamp meter won't reset? There is not a "Split play" button on the remote. I will play around and see if I can get it to go.

You have to have a Panasonic remote (one that came with the tv, or a
similar model), and if it doesn't have the PIP button (or Split-Screen
button), then you will have to use the '0' (zero) button.
Power on the tv, (and wait for the lamp replacement text, and press ok or enter or whatever it tells you to make that go away.) then press and hold the zero button on the REMOTE, and AT THE SAME TIME, press and hold the 'vol -' (volume down) button on the TV.
Zero button on remote AND
Volume button on TV AT THE SAME TIME.
This worked for my PT52LCX16 ( PT-52LCX16 ) which came with a remote without the PIP button.

Usually you hold Vol - on the tv itself and press and hold down the pip or split buttom for 5 seconds until lamp reset is displayed on screen set to 0 and thats it
