Quest .No maps coming up on screen

I have the quest for 2 yrs.Never a problem.Loaded up France and off I went. When I came home I erased France and reinput Ireland. The p.c told me it loaded sucessfully. But when I switch on the unit no map legends show up.All I get are poits I have saved on a blank screen. On the bottom left of the screen it gives me the distance legend but undermneath this it says " no map".
I have loaded and reloaded several times but no good.I thought maybe I switched off a command on the unit .Ive gone through everything to no avail.
Any suggestions ??
Thanks

    maps will not load

My Quest unit had worked fine for years. Recently I deleted some routes and now I get "no map" on the display under the scale. Contacting Garmin was a useless exercise.

Try Menu / Scoll all the way down to Map Info, press 'ok', see if your maps are all check marked. Maps not checked will not show up. If the maps are not listed then they did not load.

"Detail maps Don't Support Routing" in Garmin Quest

I too have a Garmin Quest and yesterday felt like throwing it against the wall because of the above problem. I found the solution eventually. When you download the maps from the Garmin Maps page, where you select the maps download, make sure that the checkbox to "Include route calculation data" is ticked before downloading your maps. Also make sure that the total memory required for the number of maps selected does not exceed the available memory on your Quest. If you try to fit more information into your Quest than it can receive then you are bound to have some problems. The Quests seems to have different memory specifications. According to the USA spec the memory is only 128mb, the Garmin site says 115mb and the box that my Quest came in says that it has 243mb.

hi bud, just had the same problem. hard reset i.e turn off unit, hold down ok, page and then the power button at the same time. it should then ask you if you want to delete all data. select yes and then you should be able to upload your maps again, this worked for me good luck

Screen froze up

"If your Quest locks up....on rare occasions, your Quest may freeze or lock up. In this case, reset the Quest by pressing the unit's Power key and the IN key at the same time. This will turn off your Quest. The unit will operate normally when you turn it on again."

Garmin Quest

Hello, I currently own a Garmin quest myself, and some time ago I had some strange problems myself, I am a electronics technician, and I do have a work around for you. I will explain the problems and a cure for you to try, none of the work arounds depend on any parts to be removed.

1. NO RECEIVING SATELLITE TELEMETRY. I beleieve this could be due to a number of reasons, but more so at sometime corrupted telemetry was the problem to fix this,
a turn GPS on
b. depress menu
select settings
select Time Setup
when in Time Setup depress MENU
Select SET DATE
Depress OK button
Depress OK button again on the numberic keypad that appears on the screen (DONE)
what this seems to do is resets the internal date/time clock and the unit starts to work again.
the Second workaround is this but takes hours to perform.

Simply turn the Guest on and allow the battery to fully discharge, usually this works to TOTALLY flush the Memory again, but on my unit I have to setup all the maps again, this is easy to perform, but just takes time. I hope this helps you.

This happened to me twice, and both times were after I had downloaded a long route. Both times, the only available fix was to do a "hard reboot" by selecting page-OK-power and then selecting "yes". That restored operation, but it also deleted the downloaded maps, routes, and waypoints, and forgot my preselected options.

(In MapSource, I had used the "Select maps around route" option, and both times the total memory associated with the selected maps was much less than 115MB - one was 59MB and the other was 63MB. And in three years this has never happened when fewer maps were loaded. My experiences therefore suggest that the actual working memory available for downloading is much less than 115MB - I don't yet know what the actual limit is.)

Rong turns

Hello, I also own a Garmin Quest GPS and I live in Australia, Invariably my quest sends me in the wrong directions, and also in the middle of a highway get a message do a U TURN. I only believe this error resides in the MAPSOURCE Software. and until GARMIN decides to fix the problem there is NO solution for the USER to FIX. I also do NOT believe any more the specification that garnin states with the quest GPS, I believe it can ONLY be bad Telemetry downloaded from the satellites or you have TOO MANY waypoints stored in your GPS. The Solutions I am about to give you are my way of fixing the GPS until the problem reoccures. I suggest you do OPTION 2.

none of the work arounds depend on any parts to be removed.

1. NO RECEIVING SATELLITE TELEMETRY. I beleieve this could be due to a number of reasons, but more so at sometime corrupted telemetry was the problem to fix this,
a turn GPS on when booted (initialised)
b. depress menu
select settings
select Time Setup
when in Time Setup depress MENU
Select SET DATE
Depress OK button
Depress OK button again on the numberic keypad that appears on the screen (DONE)
what this seems to do is resets the internal date/time clock and the unit starts to work again.
the Second workaround is this but takes hours to perform.

OPTION 2 Before you do this DO YOU KNOW HOW to RELOAD your MAPSOURCE MAPS.

Simply turn the Guest on and allow the battery to fully discharge, this is also a good practice to cycle the battery. usually this works to TOTALLY flush the Memory again, but on my unit I have to setup all the maps again, this is easy to perform, but just takes time. I hope this helps you.
