- Hi textonor
sorry i was not clear. the dishwasher is not out of the box new. i've had it since july but the residue has been building up since i first started using it. the powder is hard and cake like and has attached itself to the racks and stainless sides of the unit. and on random dishes a grit will remain, as if it has not rinsed properly.
does this help

-   The powdery residue started appearing on dishes after about two years. I try rinsing them in the rinse cycle, but it remains on there. Liquid soap, no construction going on in the house...-   Guest

-   I just noticed my dishwasher leaving dishes and utencils with a white residue. This was the first time it has happened after 4 years of daily use. I did switch to the new Palmolive "Green" liquid dishwasher detergent about a month ago. I wonder if that has anything to do with it.
How do you "clean" a dishwasher? I heard of putting vinegar in a coffee machine...would that work with a dishwasher?

-   I am experiencing the same problem. We have had this problem since getting the unit, and it is almost 1 and half years old now, and the problem has never remedied itself. We have tried switching dishwashing soap (from powder to liquid, and different brands) we have tried changing the setting on the jet dry dispensing unit, and that does not seem to help - in fact I can't really tell a difference between the settings anyway!
The dishes, especially visible on the glasses, are starting to get a film build up, looking a little foggy. We also noticed that sometimes the dishes on the top rack do not rinse clean, leaving tiny food particles/residue.
As I am using the dishwasher for my glass baby bottles - this residue has been a problem!! Re-washing a lot of times by hand and then putting them through again to get sterilized.
I could use some suggestions!-   jenpal
the is a new product out called the dishwasher filtration system. it actually filters the water going into your dishwasher and leaves your dishes spot free. after the first load i was amazed that the white film was gone and my dishes were sparkling. you can get it at www.dishwasherfilter.com.
Another option is if you use powder soap. I've seen build-up from soap that just doesn't dissolve. I would suggest run your kitchen sink before starting your dishwasher. Most dishwashers get their water from the sink supply and if you don't run the sink for a few seconds, cold water will enter the dishwasher and not dissolve the soap completely.
Hello Susano, Having been to the plant where this dishwasher is built I know that they test every machine with water in it. This testing is to reduce units needing servicer when they arrive to the customer. My question is this. Is it possible that this white powder could be from some construction done in your home? Since you only say you just got the unit, I ask. I have seen sheet rock dust in dishwashers when work is being done in the home after the machine is installed. I have never opened a new dw from a box and found what you are describing. Sorry to not be of any help.

- Yes it does. Sounds like the residue left over from hard water. See a lot of that in some areas because of high lime in the water and such. You can get a product called Dishwasher Magic to remove this buildup. Also Citric Acid (such as in Tang Breakfast drink) will also remove this. I have heard some servicers have good results using a enviromentaly friendly detergent. They have said it helps to reduce this happening. What is causing it to happen with the Bosch is that it is hitting the proper temps for cleaning. However this will sometimes speedly remove the minerals from the water as well. Happens to my parents old machine. It was totally white inside.
