Out of paper

My printer doesn't recognize that it does indeed have paper in it, i can put paper in either tray and whether i try to print a test page, a real page or align the printer, i get back the message that its out of paper. It does make all the starting buzzes and shakes and clicks that normally would be followed by a printed document or picture but then nothing but the "out of paper" message, any help would be appreciated, thanks,Charles

I have the same problem. Paper feed should be a technology sorted out long ago. Taking curl out of the paper or snugging it hard to the guides achieves nothing

My wife and I encountered the same problem with our HP 8250 Photosmart Printer. Me being an avid do-it-yourselfer, and a tightwad, searched tirelessly for a solution. HP was totally useless in providing information beyond what is posted on their website; which was all the service technicians would spew forth, both by phone and on-line. I had nearly resolved to buying the $50+ paper feed roller cleaning kit when I decided to look more closley at the machine. After romoving the rear access cover and watching the printer perform it's functions of trying to fruitlessly feed the paper off the paper tray; I noticed that the rollers were in contact with the paper and they were rotating normally, but there was just did not appear to be enough friction to feed the paper forward. The paper was new and was HP brand. I figured why not try and clean the rollers with some generic rubbing alcohol on a long wood handled cotton swab (available at most drug stores). Afterall, the HP site and technicians mentioned "DUSTY" rollers. I turned the machine off, disconnected the USB and power cables, and began cleaning as follows: Simply wet the cotton swab with the alcohol and gently brush/rub the rubber surface of one roller at a time, while rotating the rollers with another cotton swab using the wooden end. After several rotations of both rollers and a half dozen swabs, I replaced the rear access cover and turned the machine back on. My wife and I have printed pictures and documents flawlessly since. Total cost of the do-it-yourself cleaing kit: about $3.00.

I hope this someone else finds this solution helpful and as inexpensive as we did.

Thankx Fixya, for a great web site that pairs problems with solutions.

Black dots are printing on the left hand side of the page when I print from my hp laserjet 1015. Any ideas how to fix this?

Run a "half test". Put paper in the manual feed tray. Print anything. Watch the paper, when it feeds about 1/2 way into the printer, open the cover. Pull out the toner and look down at the paper. If it has the dots, replace the toner. If it doesn't have dots, the fuser is probably bad.

When you print each page has a gray/black line running down the page from top to bottom about 2.5 inches from the edge of the paper. Sometimes it is darker and other times it is lighter. We have tried...

While the line is showing up on the output pages.
Stop printing and put paper in the manual feed tray (tray 1).
Start printing again. As a page gets pulled into the printer about 1/2 way open the top cover.
Pull out the toner and look at the page inside the printer. If it doesn't have the grey/black line, get the fuser replaced. It is defective.

Won't recognize tray 3

If you recently had to printer off of tray 3 there is a possiblity that the connector broke when putting the printer back on. You say not recognized, is that through the printer driver? Print the configuration page for the printer and see is it shows a tray 3, or go to the diagnostics menu on the control panel of the printer and then go to paper path test. Under the "source" see what options it offers. If tray 3 shows here then it is likely just your print driver.

Reading no paper paper tray is full

Instructions
  1. Check the display for an error message. If the display reads "Clearing paper from printer," the engine has detected a jam and is attempting to eject the jammed pages automatically. These pages will often be blank.
  2. Check the display for "Performing PRINT/STOP TEST" or "Performing SERVICE TEST." Either of these messages indicates that the printer is going through a test procedure that may eject blank pages.
  3. Reduce the amount of paper in the input tray if the printer is feeding multiple blank sheets at a time. The printer will pull extra pages through if the input tray is overfilled.
  4. Replace the paper in the input tray with the correct size if needed. If the 4600 printer detects the paper as an incorrect size for the print job, it may eject the paper without printing anything on it.
  5. Replace the ink cartridges if certain colors are blank on the page. Replace the black cartridge if printing a black text document that is coming out blank. The printer may attempt to print even if the ink level is low or empty, but will unable to print anything on the page, causing it to come out blank.
  6. Remove the sealing tape from newly installed cartridges. The tape covers the print heads and should be removed before installing the cartridges. If the tape is left on, it will prevent ink from getting on the pages as they print.
  7. Press the "Check mark" button on the control panel to enter the printer menu. Run a diagnostic so the printer can attempt to determine the cause of the blank pages printing. Press the up or down arrow to select "Diagnostics." Press the "Check mark" button. Press the "Down" arrow to highlight "PQ Troubleshooting." Press the "Check mark" button. The printer runs a diagnostic and returns to a ready state when done.

Red LED keeps flashing

Hi

I've been stuck with a flashing red paper light for a while. The printer could print from the manual tray and could also print test or diagnostic pages.
So I thought it might be driver related, and indeed it was.
There's a nasty setting in the printer properties that makes the printer go woo-hoo. So go to printer properties > tray settings. Check the "paper size" of "Tray 1". If it's set to "undefined", change it to your corresponding paper format. Click Update, Apply. Now print happily.
I still wonder why that setting magically changed. Hope this helps someone.

Paper tray default issues

you need to go into the print menu on the printer and change the paper tray size back to letter, when you have it right there will be an asterik next to letter confirming that it was programmed

Hp laserjet 4250

Hello,
This happens when the printer is printing duplex job. i.e. trying to print the other side of the page.
However check the functionality of the printer by performing Paper path test.
This would help us to know whether the printer as a stand alone ... is fine or not.

From the control panel of the printer, scroll to Diagnostic > paper path test.
Select the following in sequence.
Source: All trays
Copies: 10
Duplex: ON
Print Test Page

Check if you get the same error.
If yes, upgrade teh firmware of the printer.

Let me know the end result. We still have more depending on the above test.

HP Photosmart 3200 All-In-One not printing yellow

Step1
If you're setting up the printer or changing the toner or ink cartridge for the first time, double-check the instructions to make sure that you installed the cartridge correctly and, for new printers, that you have removed all the pieces of cardboard or plastic packing material.
Step
2
Check to see whether paper is feeding from the paper tray. If it's not leaving the tray at all, try feeding a page manually (if that's an option) or using a different paper tray. Sometimes a problem with the tray can be traced to a broken spring or a piece of plastic.
Step
3
If paper is feeding from the tray but jamming in the printer, examine where the jam is occurring and then inspect the printer carefully to see if you can find what is causing the problem. A piece of paper, for instance, might be blocking the paper path.
Step
4
If paper is feeding through the printer but coming out blank, check to see whether the printer is out of toner or ink. A defective toner or ink cartridge could be the problem.

The Paper light keeps flashing when theres paper in the printer

A few things could be happening here.

1. Clear the print queue, and if there are jobs that won't delete, reboot the computer.
2. Now clear the jobs on the printer (cancel job button) until the status light turns green.
3. Put a piece of paper in the manual feed tray on the front.
4. Print a test page.
If the test page prints to the paper in the manual feed tray, then it is set as the default tray. Go into the printer settings and change it to "auto" or tray 1. If the test page prints to tray 1, but the original document you tried to print (when it got stuck) still won't print, cancel the job. Now, again, put paper in the manual feed tray. Try to print the document again and if it pulls from there, go into page setup of your document and change the setting from "manual" to "auto" or tray 1. Clear the job again (if it's stuck) and you should be able to print again. Hope this helps. This is one of the most common solutions - it happens a lot, especially with documents that are emailed from other people and once they get stuck in the queue, nothing will print (except the test pages directly from the printer, like you describe).
