A situation like this is almost always a function of your security settings. Check the settings in your anti-virus program; this is usually where the problems lie.

Hotmail has been compromised

Open that strange attachment in your Hotmail email and your computer may be infected with a virus, a nasty piece of software that may corrupt your computer data, delete files or send your personal information to a hacker. Employ a combination of proactive protection measures and post-virus removal techniques to guard your computer against any viruses hiding in your Hotmail Inbox.

Avoid opening emails from suspicious sources or with unrecognizable text in the "From" or "Subject" headings. And never open attachments that you are not expecting, even if they appear to be from a friend, without first confirming it with the sender to ensure that it is a legitimate attachment. Check the top of the Hotmail page when opening an attachment. MSN Hotmail employs a free virus scanner that scans all attachments when you try to open them. If you try to open an attachment with a Hotmail virus, the website will alert you to the danger. Press "Delete" immediately. Click "Deleted" in the left column of Hotmail after deleting a virus-ridden email. A page showing your deleted emails will appear. Push the "Empty" button at the top of the page to permanently remove all of your deleted emails to prevent accidentally moving the virus back into your Inbox. Run a virus scan on your computer system if you open a strange attachment and suspect that a virus got through the Hotmail scanner. The scanner will identify and remove the virus if it has infected your machine. Virus scanning software is available at a cost from Norton and McAfee, while free alternatives can be downloaded from Avast and AVG. Consult your user manual for scanning procedures, as these vary widely by program. Rather than paying for an antivirus

How to open email attachments

When you are in your inbox, click on the email you want to read. When the email is open and you have an attachment you want to open, go to the top of the text box and look for the little paper clip for attachments. Click on the paper clip and wait a couple of seconds. There will be a green box that will appear and it will say (down load attachment). Click on this box and then another box will say save or download. If you want to view only, then click download. If you want to save to your computer, click save and select a destination file.

E-125 Getting attachments for emails

What can & cannot be downloaded will be determined by your setup in ActiveSynch on the desktop. When connected right click on the Inbox on ActiveSynch main screen & select settings. Check mark the "Include File Attachments". If you are downloading the jpg files uncheck the "Limit Attachment size to" so complete attachments will be downloaded. On the PDA start the inbox, tap on Tools - Options - Storage. You should get the option of saving the attachments on storage card if one is available to save on main memory usage. But this might not be an option if you use a CF wireless ethernet card for connecting & Synching. If it does show up you will have to uncheck this option to save the attachments in main memory. Hope this helps.
