Question about Mitsubishi WD-52525 52" Rear Projection HDTV

2 Answers

Followup question on the advice to pass on the $100 tv.

I saw in another posting by you

"Try soldering the vertical output IC, sound without picture usually means vertical output is either defective or has bad solder joints. Does your on screen displays work when you press menu?

Didn't look like you got a response to the question about the onscreen display and the one I'm considering does show the menu's.

If you are sure that the digital board is bad, I'll take your advice and pass on the tv. Any chance that the verticle IC could be the problem on this one.

Thanks
Rusty

No its a DLP they are having some troubles with the dlps losing signal due to the digital board. verticle ICs only effect CRT projections by making the CRTs shutdown . Dlps are all controlled by the digital board. They are very expensive when you can find them. They are usually over 800 and need to be special orderd. I would pass on the TV. You can buy one cheaper than fix that

I try to be straight with people so they dont waste alot of money. But when the digital board has problems its better to try and find one working for less than a new digital board cost. Glad I could help ya out on it.

Check its vertical output section circuit for any component damage or loose soldering terminals. Check the solder terminals of the vertical output IC. Resolder all the suspected solder terminals by applying al little more fresh solder, without making any solder bridge short in between adjacent solder terminals.
If this do not help you, replace the vertical output IC. Lose of Vertical Scan is the problem of your TV.

White line in middle of screen on a cx32h60 toshiba tv

The vertical sweep output is absent. Check its vertical output section circuit for the fault. Check all the solder terminals of that section, and resolder them by applying a little more solder. Take special care to the solder terminals of the vertical output IC. If these do not help you, check and replace the vertical output IC.

Television has sound can change channels....but has no picture just a thin horizontal line in middle of screen

Hello
The vertical sweep section of your TV is faulty. It may be either to a loose solder points at somewhere in that section of to the fault with the vertical output IC. Check all the solder points on the vertical output section of your TV. It is best to resolder most of the suspected soldering points, by applying a little more solder, without making any solder bridge short in between adjecent solder terminals. If this does not help you, replace the vertical output IC with same type and number. OK.

My picture tube displays all black except one thin horizontal line in the middle. There are no horizontal or vertical adjusts that I can fine. Is the picture tube burned out with just this one line?

Hello
A thin horizontal line across the screen denote that the vertical swep or output has damaged, or there are some loose solder points to vertical output section. Loose solder problems are very common to the vertical output sections of most of the picture tube based TVs. Just open your Tv, and pull out the main baord out of it, which has the vertical output section circuit. You must have some knoldge in electronics to proceed. Locate the vertical output section. usually, this section will be composed of an IC, which will be screwed on to a metal heatslink, to radiate heat out of it when it works. Check whether there is any loose solder terminals at this section, especially look for it at the solder terminals of IC and other components around it.
It is very difficult to detect the loose solder points, as some of them may be so microscopic to detect. Just do, what we do at service table, with this type of fault comes to us. Just resolder most of the suspected solder terminals by applying a little more solder without making any sokder bridge short between adjecent solder terminals.
If this does not help you, check the input voltage to the vertical IC. If found OK, replace the vertical output IC. If there is no voltage to this IC, check the track that brings voltage to that IC. Usually, this voltage will come from one amoung the terminals of LOT [Line Output Transformer]. Check the track, rectifier diode, limiting resistor etc. This is really a skilled work, and you should have all tools for an electronic work, and a skill to detect the faulty component. OK

JVC 27D201 picture gone except for one bright line across the middle, .5 cm. high

Hello
Vertical output section of your TV is faulty. There are mainly three resons for this fault. The first one is of faulty electrolytic capacitors at the vertical output section circuit. The second one is the vertical output IC. The third one is of loose solder termitals of components at the vertical output section. Resolder most of the solder terminals of this section by applying a little more solder, without making any solder bridge short in between adjecent solder terminals. If this does not help you, replace all electrolytic capacitors at the vertical output section circuit of your TV. There will be 6 0r 7 of them the most. Replace all of the at the same time. They won't cost more. If this does not hlep you, replace the vertical output IC. OK.

Thin horizontal line across screen

Hello
You haven't specifed nothing about the model number or brand name of your flat panel teleivison. i assumes that it to be a picture tube based one and posts this solution before you.
A thin horizontal line across the screen with sound output is OK, is the sympton of total failure of vertical sweep. This may be due to failure of vertical output IC or loose solder terminals of that IC. The vertical output IC will heat up while working, and repeated heating and cooling may make its solder terminals to get loose. Just open your TV, pull out the board that contains vertcial output section, turn it upside down, resolder all the solder terminals of that IC by applying a little more solder, without making any solder bridge in between terminals. Check the voltage to the vertical output IC also. If this resoldering method does not help you, replace the vertical IC itself with same type and number will solve your TVs problem. OK.

The picture is only comming in as a small band across the tv

Hello
The vertical scan output section of your Symphonic is faulty. This type of fault may occur either by the defect of output IC or its terminal soldering loose contacts or capacitor problems. Just open your TV, and locate the vertical output section, and the IC used there. It will be a small IC usually screwed onto a metal heatsink, to radiate heat out from it. Resoder all the terminal solderings of that IC, by applying a little more solder, without making any solder bridge short in between its terminals and see the effect. If it does not helps, replace the capacitors used in that section. Replace them all with same type. There will be 5 or 6 of them. If this also doesn't helps you, replace the Vertical Output IC, with same type and number. Ok.

Picture rolls untl il warm

Hello

Picture rolling is due the fault in the vertical output section of your TV. To rectify this fault, you have to open your Tv, and locate the vertical output section inside it. It is so easy to locate as, there will be four wires going from the deflection yoke, that is the coil fitted on the neck of the picture tube, out of which, two of them will be thick, usually coloured red and blue, and the other two will be thin. Just follow the two thin wires, which will lead you to a scoket fitted on the circuit board. Upside down the circuit board, and trace the tracks of these wires, and you will reach to the vertical output section.
Normally Toshiba uses a 7 pin IC, number [TDA 8403K], in this section, the number may vary according to sets model, but the function will be the same for all. It will be screwed onto a metal hetsink. I advice you to resolder all the soldering ponts of that IC, by applying a little more solder, without making any solder bridges between the terminals. Normally this may resolve your problem, as there is a chance to get soldering loose in this section.
If this does not help, resolder the IC out, and go for a same type and number, replace it.
