Do you have power going into the contactor? When you read the voltage, read it accross the 2 power in wires, if you are not reading 220 volt, nothing will happen, and means that you have one dead power leg,,,,, bad fuse, breaker???
If this helps, please rate the new guy :)
Thanks,
Paul

First off you need to verify that the contactor has pulled in. If contactor is not engaged nothing will run and you will need to find out why. If it is not you can CAREFULLY, manually press the contactor in to ensure it will infact run. Second, if contactor is pulled in, do you have high voltage present to contactor? If all checks ok then possibly the caps are bad. Yes you can swap all three for a dual cap but need to verify what it is you need. Likely has 3 trying to achieve proper microfarads. Many times you will find capacitor requirements on the data plate of the fan motor and compressor, not the data plate for the entire condenser.

What would cause of the Air Conditioner to stop working when there is power to the house?

Check voltage at fan motor if no voltage check cap if no voltage check power supply if you have power then change the capasitor its your cheapest and most likely problem if not change fan motor. Before you do any of that your contactor is where your voltage comes in make sure the contactor is made or on in the center of thecontactor there is a button or a plastic cover over the center push the contactor in if all comes on check your low voltagethe yellow wires on the sside of contactor if you have power there change contactor

I have a Ruud Model UAFD-036JAS Air Achiever 9 split system, when i try to turn on the a/c, nothing happens. I've replaced the contactor, run cap., put in a starter cap for the compressor, replaced...

If you push the contactor and it runs why replace all that stuff??? You have to figure out where your 24 volts stops on its way to the condenser contactor. wire red green and yellow together at tstat, this should bring on indoor fan and condenser. if idf runs but cu does not you have an issue either going outside or a pressure switch is tripped. if nothing runs you have no 24, either a blown fuse, tripped float or bad transformer.

Central ac compressor keeps running

Sounds like the contactor is stuck. Turn the power off on both units and remove panel on condenser. Pull out on the contactor if engaged. Likely still needs replaced, it's going to happen again.

I think you need to slow down and start fresh.
1) You have 115v at Transformer-You are reading from Red to White
on windings?

2) If that checked out OK are you reading 24v out of Transformer?
3) If yes, remove thermostat wires and put a jumper wire between
R and G. Put the Blower Door Back ON and turn on power
hopefully your fan will come on.

4) If the fan comes on, move the jumper between R and Y, put the
blower door back on and turn on power, indoor fan should come
on as well as the outdoor unit. If the happens you have a problem
with the low voltage wire being broke or a defective thermostat.

5) If none of the above happens and you do not have 24v Between
R and Y or R and G, but you have 24v on the secondary side
of the transformer, you have a defective control board.

Condenser Fan and Compressor not turning on.

Are you sure you have high voltage going to the unit? One wire from fan lands on top left of contactor, the other two go to C and Fan on capacitor. Manually push in contactor, if no fan than no high voltage.

I would replace the contactor if you are getting 24 volts to the contactor and it isn't engaging therefore the magneto on the contactor is out and the contactor will need replacement. If you don't have 24 volts at the contactor then the transformer that sends the 24 volts is bad and will need replacing

sounds like your contactor/relay on compressor defective, by the way it sounds the buzz is from the magnetic coil on the contactor but its not pulling the contacts in to start the compressor

The fan is working but the air conditioner unit is not working

Lets take a moment to see what exactly is inside the condenser (that's an outside unit) You have a compressor, a fan, a contactor, a coil, and a capacitor. How does it work? The condenser is connected to the house via an electrical box called a yank out. It is a quick way to kill power to the unit. Note: this is not the breaker to the unit. That would be in the main panel by the meter. People always assume this is the only safety. It is put there by law to kill the power to the unit for service personel. Pull out the connection to kill the power before checking the unit. The first thing to look for is a swolen capacitor failed%20cap.jpg. If it swells it fails and the unit don't function too well. The next thing to look for is contactor problems. Their are small wires coming from the inside control panel that power up the 24 volt coil that yanks down the contactor. That coil might be bad. If it has no continuity(open) it is in need of replacement. A critter could get between the contacts and fry them as well. Look on the compressor for burnt wires and loose connections (very common). The fan motor should be very easy to turn so if it is stiff then it probably is in need of lubrication. The standard oil in the HVAC world is Zoomoil. It is hi temp resistant, will not lose viscosity and is non flammable. If a weed eater should kill the thermstat wires going outside noting will work because the contactor won't pull down. if the contactor coil is open then it won't pull down and engage the compressor and fan. if a critter crawled under the contacts nothing will happen. of course if the compressor pins are shorted to the copper piping or there is a hole in it or it has an open winding between pins it is shot.

Have a near new panasonic cs-e28hkr split system air conditioner and the outside condensor fan continously runs even with inside unit is turned off? Thanks

Sir/madam,
If the inside unit (evaporator) is turned off absolutely.
The condensing unit must be turn off outside because the power
are derived comes from the evaporator.
Possible it seems on the cut out stage inside and remain the power still on
Otherwise theres somebody tamper the connection?

Fan cable consist of 3 wires
1 Common line
2 Start /stop line***Change the connection of this wire where it located, To On/ Off switch of the
evaporator inside unit
3 Ground green line/Earth

note: you can get all that wires inside the power supply in evaporator area.

If still under warranty inform the manufacturer
