It is likely that the little platter that supports the centre of the dvd has been pushed down on the spindle motor shaft. Setting this to the correct height should allow disks to rotate without being scratched.

Crc on almost every DVD

A CRC error is a data check - cyclic redundancy check,
Either the DVD discs are dirty or scratched OR the DVD drive needs the laser lens cleaned OR the DVD drive is faulty.
If the DVD discs are scratched you may be able to polish out the scratches with a CD scratch removal kit.
Try cleaning the DVD drive with a CD drive cleaning kit to clean the laser lens.
If none of this works the the DVD drive is faulty and needs to be replaced.

I had a similar problem with Onkyo DV-CP706--it would play CD's but wouldn't play or recognize DVD's. Looking at other people with Onkyo problems, it looks like this is the most common part to fail on their DVD players. I had mine fixed by an authorized Onkyo repair center, ABL Electronics, located in Michigan. They said a part called "DVD Mechanism" was bad. They replaced that part, cleaned the machine and ran diagnostic checks for other problems, then sent it back to me. It now works perfectly and makes less noise than it did when it was new. If your Onkyo unit is still under the limited warranty, they will fix it for you for free. Mine wasn't, so it ended up costing just a little less than buying a new machine, but I feel like it was worth it. You never know what you'll get with a new machine, especially if you buy online.

I am fed up with my kids scratching the dvds is there a machine i can put them all on to

Your fault. keep your DVDs out of reach of Children. I am sure its mentioned on the DVD case. If you still want to put your DVDs into something try the dustbin.

My onkyo dv-c600 will read DVDs but not CDs

Hi

As per its user manual you cannot play back discs such as VCD (VIDEO CD) ,CD-R, CD-RW, CD-ROM, DVD-RAM, DVD-RW, etc., even though they may be labelled . Please refer to Onkyo DVC600 User Manual for more information.

Please do rate the solution as FixYa and revert for further assistance.

Thanks

Shuts off after a loud sound

Hmmm...not sure but sounds like the vibration from the loud sound is causing the disk to jump. Not sure why that would power it off, but I think your thought to junk it sounds reasonable.

the play head of your device known as the ''lens'' is either dirty or bad thats why its selecting disc, try clean it with lens cleaner,if it still does the same thing call your technician, and tell him to change the lens for you.if he does the right thing ,it will work perfectly well.
