Question about PC Desktops

1 Answer

I have tried to replace my dsl modem with a wireless modem router (thompson speedtouch 585) using aol. After dissconnecting the old modem I followed the step by step instructions supplied by aol.All seemed to be going well until it reached stage 3 of the wireless installation when the yellow light on the installation bar turned red and a message came up saying failed to connect to dsl.The dsl light was green on the router and all the connections seemed good. The only thing I did notice was that the two arrows on the bottom right of the screen (microsoft xp)were red. After trying a few basic cures eg switching things on and off, I reconnected the old modem the arrows turned green and was able to get back on the internet.Could you possibly tell me why my new modem router would not fully install.Hope to here from you soon. Kevin

Try contacting the DSL provider, if not All-Operatingsystems-Lost.
U may try Start-controlpanel-network connections-local area connection-properties
Ensure correct card under connect using.
click on configure.
click on advanced.
reset to auto detect
click ok
reboot
There are sometimes issues with the PPPOE. the DSL provider should be able to resolve this.

Trying to hook up a linksys wireless-g 2.4 ghz to a dsl modem for wireless how do i do that

Connect the DSL modem with a LAN cable to the WAN port on the Linksys wireless router. If you have not already configured the Linksys wireless settings, this is the next step.
To configure the wireless router and prevent unauthorized access to your wireless network, please click on this link and follow my instructions :-

This is only a problem with the firmware of your modem/router that you need to update it, because a network device like a modem and router that is working fine for severla years and suddenly stop working you just need to update the firmware of it and it should be working fine again, to update the firmware of the modem/router just need to call the manufacturer for that....

Hope that helps.........

I have a thompson speedtouch 510 that works just fine but when i add my SPARKLan WRTR-141 it wont get connected neither by the computer or the laptop. i have 2 ethernet cables i added one end of the first...

Have you gone into the SPARKLan and configured it yet? It should be like this Speedtouch>SPARKLan>your computer in to the SPARKLan.
Turn on your new routers SSID so it can be "found" by the wireless devices. You should turn OFF the DHCP server in the Speedtouch and turn DHCP ON in the SPARKLan.

Hope this helps.

I have a new laptop that i am trying to connect to a wireless connection. I have a speedtouch modem which has a dsl line

Your modem must first have wireless capability. If not, you need to buy a wireless router which you need to connect to the modem. Once you've done that, you can actually call the manufacturer of the router so they can walk you through setting up the wireless connection.

1. dissconnect the dsl modem wait 10 seconds
2. plug the power back up to the DSL modem

Thats the universal protical for reset.

3. inter your router setup page
This can be done by typing 192.168.1.1 in your browser address bar and pressing enter
consult your router documentation or website for specific numbers.
if your router wants a password or user name the default password may be "password"
( no user name required )

4. enable the wireless network in the router configuration pages.

5. enjoy having complete control of your router configuration.

Try using a dynamic ip address. I think you only use the static if having problems. Just read this.

A dynamic IP address is assigned to a customer’s modem or router, generally via a remote server (such as our own UWClub server). This provides the user with an IP address from an available pool of addresses every time a connection is made. This is the most common type of IP address for our broadband/Broadcall customers.

Thats off The Utility Warehouse page.
