Question about ASUS A7N8X-X Motherboard

1 Answer

Hi. I've just discovered the ASK ME button.
The background to this problem is that the start up buttom on my friends computer failed and he got round the problem by shorting out the two bare wires from the switch, effectively performing the same function as the switch. This worked for some considerable time but now that route no longer works. What he is after is an alternative way to start the computer so that the contents of his personal files can be extracted and transferred to his new computer. He has tried installing his hard drive into another computer but it keeps asking for a Boot Disk which he has never had. Any help in this matter would be appreciated

Well now.
A7N8X-X board. The reset switch is not needed to start the PC.
One does not need the reset switch to shut down the PC.
So you think it may be the Power switch that is not functioning?

What version of windows is being used? Please list the typr od hard drive being used? Serial ATA SATA or IDE?

So your friend can no longer boot his old PC?

The best way to transfer all your friends data off his drive would be to slave it into another PC. If the drive is an IDE you can change the jumper on the drive so it is seen as a slave drive in a two drive system.

Use a CD/DVD burner & copy all his personal data to disk.

Folder that need to be copied to CD/DVD are listed.

    User Name\Application Data\Identities

    User Name\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book
    User Name\Favorites
    User Name\Local Settings\Identities
    User Name\My Documents
All music, songs, movies & pictures not listed in My Documents.

It's always recommended to install a fresh install of windows on a new/old drive when placed into a new PC.

There are thousands of files in the regestry that windows used for the old PC that are no longer needed.

Your friend will need a Windows CD loaded in the CDROM when the new PC is first booted with his hard drive connected to the system. When windows starts to load it will see another windows is already installed on the drive. You'll have options.

    1. You can choose to format the drive & loose all data.

    2. Remove the data as shown above

    3. You can choose to repair windows & loose some data. Basically windows overwrites it's self. Older programs will still be listed in some folders but will not function.
The folder My Documents should be intact. You can not use the same user name or windows will add a _1 to the user's name

Save battery power by turning off your apps..

I`ve discovered that my I-Phone`s battery power kept running down really fast, the problem is that all the apps that you use thru-out the day stay open and drain power from the phone. I found out I had like 40 open at once!!
to tun them off.. get to you apps page and double click round button at bottom of phone. you will get a row of 4 apps at the bottom of the screen. hold down one of the apps, and they will start shaking. just click on the "-" minus sign and begin to close them all out. it does not delete the app, just closes it. welcome to more battery life!!!

Does anyone know a download so i can get my discover dj computer system to work because i dont got a diskf or it i bought the machine off my buddy

It apparently works with USB and requires no further downloads to get it to work.

There IS however a software CD that should've came with it; hopefully your friend gave you that CD too. That CD (according to their video on ION's home site found here, inserting that software disc into the computer is one of the steps to getting the DJ turntable system to work.

My friend's touchpad does not work

Some manufacturers made a toggle that is in the upper left hand corner of the touchpad that you tap twice to toggle the touch pad on or off.

Some touchpads will have a button at the very top of the touchpad in the middle that you press to toggle the touchpad on or off.

Some manufacturers let you toggle the touchpad between on and off with keystrokes. Normally the keystrokes is to Press and Hold the ALT or FN function key then hit the correct F1 thru F12 key that toggles the keypad. Normally the correct key that toggles the keypad will have the icon of a finger pointing at a square which represents the touchpad.

You can always try to see what the manufacturer manual says about the keypad.

Get onlineand got to In the google search box type: "AcerSupport" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operatingsystem when requested. Look for manuals.

The computer does not boot up. I've had it for 5 years.

Hi tmondle
Your HD has probably failed and can easily be replaced if you have a little experience . Ask a qualified friend to test this first , before going to a repair shop .
Best regards ,

My lap top was working fine yesterday , but when i went to turn it on today the startup said to use "run in safe mode " or others options similar to that , i chose one , & it still didn't...

Hi, sorry to hear you are having problems. 1. Start up your desktop as normal but as soon as it starts keep pressing the 'F8' key. 2. You will have a black background with white writing on and lots of options. 3. Use the up and down arrow keys and select last known good configuration, then press the enter key to select it. philswift_4.jpg
Your computer should start up. If you have a blank screen, do you hear the fans whirring and see lights on the front? If so then your computer works but is not sending s signal out to the monitor. Check all cables to make sure they are securely connected. If you still have no image. Swap your monitor for a friends one that you know works. This will test if it is your monitor that has failed. If you see an image on your friends you will need a new monitor or new monitor cable. If you do not see an image on your friends monitor and your PC has lights and fan whirring then you need to get a new graphics card. If you have no lights and no fan whirring it is outside the scope of this and we need some more information as it could be 1. Failed power supply 2. Failed memory 3. Blown motherboard 4. Failed processor
Please report back with answers to 1. Do you hear fans whirring? 2. Do you see a power light/led light up? (in example pic it is green) 3. Do you see the HDD (Hard Disk Drive) LED/light flash at all? philswift_5.jpg

Many thanks for your information

Chances are that the composite inputs are not selected in the settings. You need a display connected to the MONITOR output to see what you're doing. Then press the SCREEN button (just below the RECORDER readout) until "Menu" lights up next to it. Then press the large round wheel in while keeping the MENU button depressed - this will bring up the menu settings on the monitor. Then press the MENU button in the "Dial Menu" section - while keeping it pressed, rotate the large round knob until "Setup Item 101" appears in the display- this is the Video Input Select area.

Release the MENU button to select Item 101 - then press the DATA button while rotating the large round knob until S-V changes to V (going from S-Video to Composite ). When you've reached the desired setting, press the SET button to store it in memory. Keep in mind that you have to do this on P1, P2, R and/or AUX depending on which channels you want to change. The factory default is S-Video, so that is probably how the machine is set on each channel. When you've finished setting the channels to your preference, press the SCREEN button to exit the menu.

I've found that the $20 (or so) investment on one of the many manual sites pays for itself many times over in "frustration control". I can attest that is quite trustworthy, and in most cases you can download and print the manual immediately. The sites that offer "free manuals" are more trouble than they're worth as you have to download all kinds of crap you don't need, and they pop up when you don't want them to and slow down your computer.
