I have a DVD writer installed in my Compaq SR1230NX PC, but I can't figure out how to burn a DVD. When I pull up the options, it looks like I can only write CDs. I am not too good with PCs.

Unfortunately most all computers shipped with a DVD burner installed do not come with actual DVD burning software. XP Home nor any XP format come with them built in either. I can only suggest you buy a burning program such as Roxio Creator 2009 or the like.
I hope that helps.

Dvd Driver

Hi elyse09,
If your PC system is not a notebook than the DVD writer will fit in to your system. This DVD writer burns a variety of DVD's at different speeds depending on the DVD disks speed & CD-RW's as well. Windows does not need driver for DVD/CD writers. This DVD writer is also a DVD player. It comes with software that allows you to use the internal laser to write labeling onto the disk. It will take time to learn how this is done but for the money its at the top of its class.

Installed SH-S202 dvd writer some time ago, and since that time have experienced shut down problems on my Dell with XP pro. It never shuts down, but seems to go into Standby mode first. Then, when it...

Check the power settings:

START | Control panel | Power settings

Make sure all settings are Never

Also go to the Advanced tab and remove any Standby entries.

The DVD Writer installation is most likely a coincidence then an actual suspect with the standby issues.

Thanks,

Vincent
