SanDisk 2GB Cruzer Micro: XP doesn't recognise it and asks for drivers

I've just bought the 2gb cruzer micro from sandisk, straight out of package plugged it into my laptop and the install new hardware dialog pops up and eventually comes to the conclusion that it can't find any drivers for the hardware. It doesn't recognise it as a flash drive at all. I've tried all the drivers and software on the sandisk website but they all either need the os to have recognised the flash drive or say that xp doesn't need drivers for the flash. Please help!! I'm currently running XP SP2

My laptop won't recognize my 4G cruzer, it blanks out the My Computer page and can't recognize the drive. I've already tried the Sandisk "help" page - it wasn't any help!

if the usb connector broke off of the board inside the plastic casing, no, you wont be able to retrieve the data.

Testimonial: "it doesn't help me get my info back but it helps that someone would take the time to let me know that it is trash now, so that i don't hold on to it always wondering how to fix it. so thanks"

How to make a sandisk Cruzer to operate with windows 98

This Cruzer driver package for the SanDisk Cruzer Micro is needed only for Windows 98. Windows Me, 2000 and XP already have the driver (if you are having trouble using the drive on these systems, then it is likely to be a conflict or problem in Windows - see the Windows Device Manager and Windows Help file for details).

After you download the Cruzer driver file, unzip the contents and click setup.exe to begin. Importantly, you should restart Windows 98 so the new Cruzer drivers can properly load into your system. Next, plug in the Cruzer drive and Windows will finish the installation. Restart your computer if needed.

Sandisk flash drive

Is the account that your tying to access the drive with an Administrator account? If not, Log in as Administrator and try to access the new drive. If you ARE using Administrator privileges on the vista machine, the problem lies in the U3 smart driver. Try downloading and installing the drivers for the XP SP2 os on scan disks website, If vista rejects the install package off of the scan disk website, let me know and i'll extract the drivers and build an install for them for you.
