This sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following two links for more info:

    charles3,

Print this out, and read/memorize the last paragraph stating "Canon's Response". It's the related Canon CCD advisory for Canon's Asian region:

    http://www.canon-asia.com/index.jsp?fuse...

Have a copy of the above in your hand when you contact your local Canon service center in Sri Lanka to arrange your free repair. Include it in the package when you ship your camera for repair. By the way, the following is your Canon service center:

    Homebase Electronics (Pvt) Ltd

    No. 85 Braybrooke Place

    Colombo 2

    Sri Lanka

    Telephone: +94-11-2437797

    Fax: +94-11-2448980

    Now how's that for service?

I have a Canon Power Shot S1 IS 3.2 mega pixels When I turn it on, display become with many multicolor dash. I can not see what i try to focus, and can not take picture too. Thanks.

It would be far cheaper to replace the camera than have it repaired, prices have dropped considerably and offer better picture quality.

When I look through my lens, the object is totally out of focus no matter what I do. The object looks blurry and color is grayish/brownish. What could be causing this?

You do not say if the pictures you take come out blurred?

I believe this powershot model (depends on the precise model/variant) has an optical adjustment just by the side of the viewfinder (small lever or knob). Try adjusting this to bring your view back into focus.

Check you have not set any special effects on eg soft focus portrait and sepia - probably safer to do a camera reset - see your instruction book.

Good luck

Canon powershot A80 camera. LCD display works fine but no picture. Camera will take pictures but no display and nothing but black appears on download. Everything else works fine. I think it is the lense?

Sounds like the CCD or the Shutter are not working. Canon only sells the CCD as part of the optical unit, which includes the shutter. However the new optical unit will require reprogramming of the main pcb to focus correctly

Spot appears in pictures and LCD display.

That's a good bet, I think the service centers will do this as an
"annual internal cleaning" although I don't know what they will charge. Taking apart the optics is challanging and risky.

Image looks with white verital striped lines in playback mode

Mine had the same problem (except the stripes are horizontal).  I sent it to Canon and sure enough it is the CCD problem that many of these have.  The good news is that it is covered under a recall and Canon will fix it free, including the shipping.

Powershot S1 Digital Camera: Flash won't fire

Make sure the camera is not in Document mode . Document takes a picture with added contrast so text stands out. Make sure the camera is not set to Infinity focus . When you select Infinity Focus, the camera automatically turns off the flash and auto focus so you get sharp, clear pictures. Make sure the camera is set to Fill, Auto, or Red Eye flash. See your camera manual for details about setting the flash.
