The most common reason for slow processing speed is insufficient RAM memory.

Increase the RAM, if RAM available is no more than 512MB, then it must be upgraded.

Check also your hard drive state. If you have less than 1GB free, that will slow down the system. Go to Start>>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Defregmenter and do a Defrag of the hard disk.

If you have at least 1 GB RAM, and you took care of the hard drive, then you can check the process starting up on their own and remove the useless one, or spot mala-ware that can affect speed. You can use a software like Hijack This, and search on google te function of each process started on the list reported by the software.

You can download Hijack this here MajorGeeks | If download does not start, then click at the top of the page, where it says Click Here If It Does Not.
Be careful if you delete the wrong files using this software you can harm the system, and Windows may not work properly.

If you think you have malaware you can also install Spy Bot, and do a system scan. DownloadSpybot from The home of Spybot.

If all the above does not work, and there is no malaware, then you usually reinstall the system.

Check also the bios settings, BIOS can downgrade the CPU speed on default , even if this is uncommon on recent BIOS.

If a computer is still slow with a fresh system and enough resources then it is one of those rare occasions when you have an hardware fault.
Hardware that can cause slow down is: RAM CPU Motherboard HD Video card.

Some tips on procedure can damage your windows installation. Do not download Hijackthis software and do not change BIOS settings and do not touch hardware unless you are sure of what you are doing.

This looks like a simple memory fail. to fix this up you will need to buy more RAM, also make sure that your Video card is at a good speed.

If it still goes on you will need to buy a new laptop. PC's are better to play games on.

What are your laptops specs?

If your Hardware is pretty much compatible with game requirements than you have to go through some points before playing game to prevent your PC from lagging:-

- Shut down all running updates
- Remove all temporary files from your system
- You must have enough memory on disc that can support your paging memory
- Stop background running applications
- Run Reginout Utility for extreme gaming experience

My laptop slows down game play when the fan kicks on after about 20-30 minutes once the CPU heats up. It's to the point that I can't play games. Any thoughts?

You are burning up your computer and as you continue to do that, it will slow and slow until you kill it.

Those are my thoughts.

It might be that if you turn off everything except your game and assure a clean, clear air path, you may slow down the demise of your computer.

Not what you wanted to hear, Im sure.

Game moves too slow

There can be three reasons

1. The game requirements does not match your laptop requirements.

OR

2. There are lots of temp files/junk on the laptop which slows it down

OR

3. There is something running while you are playing such as virus scan, logged in your MSN/yahoo/AIM

Low 'fps' rate ,when the game runs.....

hey, I have a crappy acer laptop and can play tactical games pretty well but some FMV's have slowed it down increadibly.
I strongly suggest you get the pcsx2 0.9.6 version, check all the speed hacks (see if that doesn't crash your game) you also have the option of using VUSKIP your screen will blink sometimes depending on how much you got going on the screen at once, but you can adjust it using F4 BTW normal limited(i never use) skip and vuskip. I use normal on some FMVs but game play i'll use VU most of the time because my laptop is slow.
Also you can play without sound and check the sound hacks, small speed up.
While PCSX2's new version is much faster, it still slows down quite often and is a huge system resource drainer.
my settings for VUskip 160 custom 70 skip below 3consective render 15 frames skipped. lol

Does your machine meet the games minimum requirements?
If so have you tried turning the graphics down in your game interface?
Laptop Graphics cards usually use your systems memory so they have a harder time rendering complex graphics. I play WoW and have my graphics turned up on my desktop but have them turned down to minimal for my laptop.

Vista also takes allot of system memory thus leaving less for your video card. If you are going to play games on it on a regular basis I would suggest you have a minimum of 2GIGs of memory.
