Touchscreen locked @ enter pin. Unit won't shut off unless power

To adjust the touchscreen sensitivity, perform the following:
1. Power the copier OFF.
2. Access the Key Operator Mode (Power the copier ON, while pressing the [HELP] key).
3. Touch [10. Control panel adjustment] on the touchscreen to display the control panel adjustment screen. Note: If the touchscreen is so far out of adjustment that there is no response when touching [10. Control panel adjustment], the control panel adjustment can be accessed (at this point) by touching any numeric key on the 10-key pad.
4. Touch the + at the upper right corner of the touchscreen lightly with a touch pen (something with a round tip which is made of resin is recommended as a touch pen). Check the coordinates displayed in the top line at the top of the touchscreen.
5. Ensure the X coordinate and the Y coordinate displayed in the message area fall within the standard values. The acceptable values are on the second line.
6. If the values are not within the acceptable parameters, repeat Step 4 until the values are acceptable.
7. Touch the + at the lower left corner of the touchscreen lightly with a touch pen (something with a round tip which is made of resin is recommended as a touch pen). Repeat the process used for the upper right coordinate until acceptable values are achieved.
8. As verification of a correct adjustment, touch the [CHECK] icon at the upper left and lower right corners. You should hear a beep tone for each one. If a beep tone is not heard, repeat the adjustment.
9. Power the copier OFF/ON to exit the Key Operator Mode.

1 take out the battery cover
2 press the password button
3 input the old password and *
4 input the new password and *
5 input the new password and *
6 ok

Go to control panel, click on Pen and Touch and follow the instructions. Click on the battery icon, you will see your power options, check on each one to set your power options, I suggest you set it to battery saving mode or any mode you prefer.

Most likely you have a defective touchscreen. If your unit is PIN locked, you will not be able to operate the unit...even in your safe location because the touchscreen has failed. More information can be found here as there is just to much info to retype here:

If there is a PIN assigned and the PIN can't be entered in because the touchscreen isn't working, then the PC will not recognize it. The communication routines between the Nuvi and PC will only happen after the PIN has been entered. If your at home, you will get to the main menu because that's your safe location where it will not ask for a PIN. The touchscreen is bad and needs to be replaced. Please see this link:

This is not caused by an update. Please check your unit's serial # to see if it starts with a "12P", "14V" or "143". If so, these units have a specific touchscreen that can fail even without physical damage to the glass or screen. The only way to resolve it is to replace the touchscreen & glass. You will not lose any of your data. The unit is not frozen and you can verify it by quickly pressing the on/off button. If you hear a beep, it's not locked up. You touchscreen has failed and won't accept any input. Please see this link:

Hi Matt, Is your touchscreen not responding? Try put your sim to other phone and disabble pin.

Well watch this video and after you follow the directions get the screen and find the glass like cover and remove it from the screen bend it in a very lightly way, then put it back on and put the PDA back together and BAM.

Note: A master reset will erase all favorites1 and will restore your device to the default factory settings. If you would like to back up your favorites to your computer, you can find instructions to do so on the Garmin site
To perform a master reset on a nuvi 300 series device:
1.Start with the device OFF and unplugged from the power source
2.Touch and hold the top right corner of the touchscreen2
3.Power the device ON while continuing to hold the touchscreen
4.The message "Do you really want to erase all user data?" will appear
5.Remove your finger from the touchscreen when this message displays
6.Touch Yes
After the nuvi resets, follow the on-screen prompts, and then place your device in an area with a clear view of the sky until it acquires satellites.
Although the master reset will erase all saved favorites, any loaded custom points of interest will remain intact on the device.
If the message in step 3 does not appear when using the top right corner of the touchscreen, please repeat these steps using the bottom right corner of the touchscreen instead.
