Question about Samsung HLN617W 61" Rear Projection HDTV

1 Answer

Fan locations I unscrewed one of the three fans while replacing the color wheel. The cables are still attached but I can't find the locations to reattach the fan. Since the cables are still attached it should be a snap. Easy for you, not so much for me.

Extend the cables to their furthest length, along the back panel, and your arc will bring you to the only set of holes that match up with fan.

My toshiba mod. 52hm95 lamp cooling fan is making noise and i am having trouble locating a replacement

Fan like noise may be a fan or the color wheel---color wheel spins at high speed(lamp faces it) and when failing you will have a high pitched or fan like sound---hard failure and you will hear a grinding sound.

My HD61LPW42 makes a high pitched wirring noise after it is on a few seconds sounds like the fan is rubbing against something but doesn't appear to be. The picture quality is still good and the tv...

this might be a noisy color wheel . this is a motorized wheel that produces the color in the set. it could be something else because of your statement of picture is ok. if it the color wheel the set will eventally shut down. this part used to be avalible and fairly easy to replace. it has got harder to locate. The other possibilites includes a small leaky capacitor in the powers supply but that is more like a whine. a tech would have to take the back off and locate the noise.. i believe this unit might have 2 fans and a color wheel. three moving motors.. anything that moves eventally dosnt

After 10 sec. after start up the tv starts to make a large growling sound for about 5 secs. then repeats every 15 sec. sounds like if might be a fan. How many fans in this t.v. . Took the back cover off...

That growling sound is most likely a your color wheel. Often, a color segment breaks free and causes the wheel to become unbalanced. I would suggest searching for a tutorial or "How-To" on replacing it. Basically, you need to disconnect (about 4 connections) and remove the Light Engine (2 screws). Then pull the cover off the color wheel housing (to the left of the lamp, 2 screws). Disconnect and remove the color wheel (2 screws and 2 connectors). You will need to use a vac the glass out from the lost color segment(s). Here's a tip for reassembly: color wheel 4-wire ribbon.. copper on the connector should face you. Also, the lamp door switch must be tripped or the TV will not fire up. I hope this was helpful.

Check Fan No. 2 Error Message

The DMD board you installed is bad. It senses the detection line from the fan and generates the error code. Try installing the old DMD board.

Screen says check fan 1 2 3

Hi,Sounds like you just need to clean the fans, you can do this with an air pressure can.One of them is where the lamp is a second one will be where the optical block is exactly where the Dmd board is.The third location could be any where. Also it seems there's a cable loose or bad connection ,maybe when you replaced the color wheel you unplugged a cable.Good luck and God bless you!

I have a model #hln5065w 50'' DLP TV. How do I know if the cooling fan is bad vs. the color wheel? Are the symptoms the same?

No the symptoms are not the same. If you hear a lou whine or buzzing or see the color fluctuating or no color then it is the Color Wheel. If any one of the three fans are bad you will see a CHECK FAN# on the screen. Fans on these sets very rarely go out. The Color Wheels will fail before a fan will. Color Wheel part# is BP96-00250A.

Trying to replace lamp fan

First let make sure it's the Lamp fan. What many people think is the fan, And by the way there are three fans in this model, What sound like a fan is in fact a color wheel. So listen to the set as it starts up, these Samsungs make certain sounds when they start. First after you hit the power button you get the "Samsung Tones" from the speakers, second ALL the Fans start 1 to 2 seconds later the color wheel starts then stabilizes, third you may here the lamp fire. So if the sound takes two to three seconds after you turn the set on it's the color wheel BP96-00250A Now when it shuts down its like this First the shutdown "Samsung Tones" then watching from the back after a few seconds the lamp will shut off, then the color wheel stops but all the other fans remain on for about 2 minutes. I've worked on thousands of these and in only one or two was the problem a fan. but on the other hand I have enoghf bad color wheels I was able to make a pertty inpressive Christmas decoration
