    Thanks, I have removed the battery several times as well toggled all the buttons numerous times. Still does not work.

    In addition, cannot do as you suggest regarding using the Menu Button to reset because Menu button does not work as with any of the other buttons.

    Any other ideas??

Hi,

Possibly two (2) reasons:
1. Software/firmware glitch. Reset the camera by removing the battery;
2. One of the buttons is stuck preventing any other from working. Determine which one and tap on it a couple of times as a temporary workaround. Ideally, the unit must be opened and the contacts/ switches cleaned with contact cleaner.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

    Hi again,

    Alternately, the camera can be reset to default settings.
    1. With the mode switch on any position, press ON/OF till power indicator is green;
    2. press the MENU button till "Reset settings to default?" is displayed;
    3. Left/Right keys to choose "OK";
    4.press "SET" button.

    Cheers.

    Appreciate your update/post.

    Additionally, pls:
    1. any error/display messages?;
    2. have you tried cleaning the cam including the lens, memory card slot, battery holder with a can of compressed air?;
    3. try plugging the USB connector to the cam and to a PC;
    4. try connecting the camera to a compatible Canon Direct Photo printer.

    Should all else fail, you may have to consider:
    a. a firmware update (but that would be through an authorized service center);
    b. replacing the camera if cost of repair would not justify that action. Sorry.

    last I can think of is to clean/scrape the contacts/terminals both at the battery and that inside of the camera. You may need to use a sharp small object like a small screwdriver or a nail pusher. Additionally, it may be of help if you gently/slightly bend the camera's battery contact pins so as to put more pressure to the battery when inserted.

    Other than above, you may need to seek the services of a qualified professional.

Hi there, I was taking photos with a 3 years old canon ixus 70 and suddenly the screen became black!! from then taking picture was impossible it comes out black too. All the menu buttons work properly,...

First verify that your camera is actually an SD500 (takes SD cards) and not an S500 (takes CF cards). If your camera is actually an S500, this would probably be a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free worldwide, and may also include free shipping both ways (free shipping varies with countries). This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check this link for more info.

Applicable cameras include:
A40, A60, A70, A75, A80, A85, A95, A300, A310, S1 IS, S60, S200, S230, S330, S400, S410, S500, SD100, SD110, IXUS V2/V3/300/400/430/500/II/IIs, IXY Digital 200a/300a/320/400/450/500/30/30a

Now if your camera is indeed an SD500, a stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open).

To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help.

Images have pink overlay

I had the same problem with my camera, suddenly the LCD and picture shows some pink image overlay bands on the top usually. When focusing the bands sometimes disappear. But they always shows on image as on the LCD. Canon seems to fix this problem as goodwill (guarantee is not valid anymore) so I sent my camera to service for this. Hope they accept this otherwise it is broken, LCD common problem. (Solution or same problem we will see)
