I have a wd my book 500gb. i got it brand new from the store 2 months ago, it has stayed on my desk out of any heat or sunlight or anything like that. For some reason it has slowed down and sometimes stops responding all to-gether, i have also had problems installing stuff onto it. it only has 160GB being used so far

Try cleaning the drive (start-program-asses'-tools-cleanup)?
Try defraging the drive (same place)?
Go into MSconfig - startup and disable all?

With a new pc, the first few months U will load a lot of stuff on the system. These new programs can have files in startup that U won't use again or U don't want starting on boot (l.e. office programs, setup programs, sound cards, acrobat, etc.). Disable all and then if something U want it to start on boot they can be checked back on.

After the above, clean and defrag as often as every week or two.

Hi there! i hope you can help me with my problem, im using WD harddrives the 5GB I bought it a couple of days ago and i just dropped it last from my bag, now its not working even do its readable on the...

Hard drives are very susceptible to fall damage as they have moving parts. See if it's a power problem and look inside for any internal damage. If the data inside is really important then you should bring it to a data recovery center to obtain your data. Otherwise, hand it in for warranty since it's new!

Tip

Seagate FreeAgent Desk 500GB not reconized and just beeps

Hi, anyone looking at this tip please be patient as the link that was below is changing to another site, it shows a link from You Tube on how to take the Seagate apart so anyone with the problem with the unit just making beep sounds and not being reconized by their P.C.
As all the threads i saw like my 1st thread reporting about my friends Seagate FreeAgent Desk 500GB asking about his problem and no-one was getting replies, and they where getting frustrated, I decided to find out. Someone has replied to my other thread with the same answer as taking it apart and connecting it to a P.C. So to help others who need their important files from the external HardDrive I have made a step by step guide so even novice P.C. users like myself can attempt to sort it out without being charged loads $-£ etc.. It seems unfair for all these users to buy something new and with in 1 week - 2 months it fails and they have important files etc.. stuck on the HardDrive and being charge to retrieve it. I'm not looking to cause any trouble just want to help others out. (link no longer availiable, it is being amended)

Me e machine desk top has been stored away for 6 months, i have set it up & the monitor won't stay on & it's saying no signal?

When the monitor says no signal, it means that it is not detecting a monitor. You need to check the cabling of your monitor and verify that it is properly plugged in. Normally its a blue VGA connection or a white DVI connection that goes to the back of the computer. Also, some monitor requires a seperate power source and you need to check this as well

My CISNET desk top power supply fan needs replacing. Staples ordered the part - but I want to see if I can get it faster. Who sells them? Thanks. (I already googled). The hard drive was replaced 4 months...

A power supply is what is called an FRU (Field Replaceable Unit). Generally you don't replace parts on the power supply, it is cheaper to just order a new power supply. Also, office supply stores aren't usually the best places to buy computer parts. Try this place (http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=58&name=Power-Supplies&Order=PRICE). I have bought extensibly from them and have had absolutely no trouble.
