Re: Refridgerator ice maker not making ice
Actually it should be blinking when door opened, try closint the little flap on left side of freezer liner, does hte light then become solid??? if so the electronic control is working correctly.. open the flap acessing to ice maker itself is there any ice in the machine now?? perhaps an ice cubes is jammed and not allowing hte icemaker to advance.. ck the little black nozzle(fill tube) crush it with your fingers is it full of ice???if so your fill tube is frozen and needs to be thawed. this is a pretty hard ice maker to trouble shoot. lastly theres ascrew under the rt corner if ice machine 1/4 nut driver. remove htat screw it releases acover for wires. the ice maker will pull out (youl need to push up a little tab along the left siderail inwhich the ice aker sits , after removed pry off the white cover if ice maker and look at the center gear. sometomes the tabs holding that gear on are broken in which case hte ice maker wont work and needs replacing(you cant sevice the main gear replace the entie assy. let me know what you find( iknow it sounds like a lot but youll be alright!!!!!

Your have not given the full model #. Anyway most likely you have the Ice Maker Optical Level Sensor.
Just red light blinking does not mean faulty here. There is a Optical Sensor check sheet. You have to follow those instructions.
Google "Whirlpool Ice Maker Optical Sensor check sheet". You will get the instruction sheet and/or youtube videos on the subject.
Not making Ice means either the ice maker is faulty or Optical sensor faulty or water valve cannot feed water due to malfunction or line frozen. Also freezer should be below - 12C to ice maker sensor to work.
The blinking red light is just a sensor that shuts down the ice maker when the door is open so that it will not dump. This should have no effect on why the ice maker is not working unless the little door that blocks the beam does not return when the door is shut again...
Here is a tip that I wrote about the reasons why ice makers do not work.
It sounds like you have a failing relay/valve that wont stay open when current is passed through them, check there first otherwise your control board could have water/heat damage remove inspect and if necessary replace let me know how it goes :)
I would assume you are referring to the ice level sensor that is on the center divider. It is normal for it to blink if the door is open. You can test out this theory by holding the flap on the left side closed but not blocking the sensor. The light should go steady. If the ice maker is not working then you either need to change the lazer sensor or the ice maker itself.
Your ice maker has an automatic shutoff. The ice maker sensor passes a beam from one freezer wall to the other, automatically stopping ice production when the storage bin is full. When you open the freezer door, you should see a red light on the top right freezer wall. When the freezer door is open or the ice storage bin is removed, the sensor cover or "flipper door" on the left wall of the freezer stops the ice maker from producing ice by blocking this sensor, When the beam is blocked, the red light on the right will blink twice. This is normal operation. as for the blink twice and pause I'm still checking on that. Make sure the water flow is coming from the solenoid valve located on back and bottom of refrigerator to the ice maker. Check the solenoid to see if the magnetic field is pulling the internal plunger open when ice maker ask for water. That can be checked with a multi meter at the wireing going to the solenoid and if the ice optics are telling the tray to fill voltage should be present. Insure that water supply is not restricted before it comes to the solenoid , like a bent line or clogged piercing valve. Check that an ice cube is not jammed in the ejector arm of the ice maker. Remove jammed ice from the ejector arm using only a plastic utensil so the ice maker is not damaged. Call toll free in USA and a trained consultant will be happy to assist you. 1-866-698-2538
