LCD vertical lines

I have a Libretto 100ct, and the LCD has vertical lines running up and down on one side, with one red line running on the left side, each line is 1 pixel wide and however many pixels from top to bottom of the display.

Hi fdsman,
I had the same problem. Usually if its a bad connector you would have intermittent problems. Try hooking your laptop up to an external monitor. If the screen on the external is clean, then chances are that it's your LCD. Good luck.

Hi fdsman,
I had the same problem. It was the LCD. Usually the connector would display a wider band. Try to connect your laptop to an external monitor. If the external monitor shows a clean screen, chances are that its your LCD. Good luck to you. By any chance is your screen a 17" widescreen?

I have a single vertical blue line on my 50CT Libretto screen. It does not show on an external monitor. Any ideas what's causing the blue line if it can be fixed? Thanks Mike H

Just a bad screen. There's not a cost-effectve fix for these things due to the age of this laptop and on top of that, these screens were incredibly rare even when they were first sold. If you must replace it, then your best bet would be to hunt down a whole unit (eBay would be your best bet) - it might take a while but your target price should not be over $20 delivered. That'd be your best bet.

Got white vertical lines on left side of display

Vertical lines on an LCD screen are not a good sign. This usually means that your screen is going bad.

I have a dell inspiron 6400 laptop and there is a red verticl line on the left side of the screen and a white one on the right side. how do i remove them?

Vertical lines that appear on the lcd are from two sources, one being a loose data cable. This cable is the flat cable that is usually running up the left center of the lcd and plugs into the motherboard on the left side under the keyboard. Now usually this cable is held into place by adhesive on the plug itself and sometimes there are small catches that hold it. It is entirely possible that this plug can be dislodged and cause the symptoms. The most likely scenario however is that the screen is starting to fail and this is just the start of a cascading effect until it goes out completely. Sometimes if you press on or "torque" the screen the lines will disappear, this is also indicative of imminent screen failure.

Very thin vertical red line just appeared on my monitor. It is about 5-6 inches from left side.

LCD is starting to go bad. Anytime lines start appearing randomly or constantly, the pixels are going bad so the screen needs replacing.

Coloured vertical lines down lcd screen

To isolate the issue, i strongly recommend to connect the notebook to the external monitor by VGA port which had BLUE colored on the notebook. So that if it is normal then you need to confirm the issue is with the LCD display.

Thin Red Line on Left Side of HP Pavilion DV2000 Lap Top Screen

Majority of time it's the lcd that has a problem which creates the red line, otherwise it's the GPU (video processor).

Try hooking up your computer to an external monitor. If you see the line on the external chances are it's the lcd.

This method of testing isn't fool proof but either way the problem is hardware related.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Vertical lines in my laptop screen

Try connecting an external monitor to the Dell Inspiron 9300 and see if the vertical line is also present on the monitor. If the monitor display is fine, then your laptop’s LCD display panel is defective. If the monitor also displays the vertical line, then your problem is with either the video card or motherboard located inside your laptop.
Not sure if the Compaq Presario has an external monitor plug, but if it does the above procedure can be applied to that one as well.

Hi, Depends on what OS you are using. For this particular model (Libretto 100CT), it is probably either Win9X or RedHat (or some Linux variation). In Win9X, you might try F8 & run it in DOS and run: Scandisk c: /autofix /surface; Scanreg /fix If it is beyond repair you have to have access to the OS installer CD. Sometimes Win9X installer is also saved in the HD. Try checking if it is inside your HD and run setup. Hope this be of some help. Pls post again how things turn up. kind regards.
