I have a Poulan 2150 chain saw which needs a new chain oil pump. What is the cost to replace it. Should I just buy a new saw.

If you perform the labor repair likely <$20 (<$9 for pump, <$1 worm gear). Compare replacement cost to 34cc± replacement, your call.
A link to a Poulan 2150 Gas Saw Type 7 follows (may not be your saw):
http://www.ordertree.com/modelinfo/PWE/2150-Gas-Saw-Type-7/75.2150-Gas-Saw-Type-7.1.59.1.html

If the link is not your saw it can be found here.
The IPL (exploded parts list) for your saw is the only detail for the oil system and it is sketchy at best. Oil components and part numbers are listed but may be on different illustrations. They are also beneficial with disassembly/reassembly:
Poulan.com
http://www.ordertree.com/modelinfo/POULAN-WEED-EATER/75.59.html
The dash number of your serial number is the type.
The oil pump is under the outboard clutch, this is helpful with removal.

  1. Check the IPL for your saw to see if any special tools are needed. Poulan (Craftsman, Jonsered, Husky) clutch removal tool part number 530031112 if needed, is under $5 from many sources (look at the visible area between the weights if 2 small round sockets are visible you need the tool).
  2. There are metal piston stops available, when square (almost never) with the piston top these work well, if not square they have been known to punch through the piston. I suggest a length of nylon rope (nothing left behind) be used instead of the piston stop (retain 6" ± so you can remove it). Make sure the piston is near the top of the cylinder before feeding the cord or it can fall through the exhaust port and damage the piston as it rises.
  3. Everyone I have ever removed had a left handed thread (tighten it to loosen it).

Poulan 2150 chain saw starts after priming and dies after a few seconds

Take the exhaust off so you can see the side of the piston, if it is scored or damaged it means it has probably been run without oil added to the petrol.
That can cause the problems you are having, if it is throw it away, its not worth repairing

Poulan 2150, chain oiler not working. Chain is getting very hot.

Try to pour some gasoline only in the oiled tank and look if the gas comes out, if not the tank is clogged .

How do you re assembly brake handle poulan 2150

Hello Larsens;
A Poulan "2150 Predator Gas Type 6" IPL follows (may not be your saw)(the LE suffix is a Wood Shark) http://www.ordertree.com/modelinfo/PWE/2150-Predator-Gas-Saw-Type-6/75.2150-Predator-Gas-Saw-Type-6.1.59.1.html
There is no breakdown, they want you to order a new cover $20±. The cover appears on different print names with different models (Handle & External Assembly) above.
Poulan.com (all)
http://www.ordertree.com/modelinfo/POULAN-WEED-EATER/75.59.html
The dash number of your serial number is the type.

Do you have a friend with a cover you can look at? The brake will need to be lached open (enlarged) to refit the clutch cover on your saw.

Detail A here is a good representation of a Husky chain brake, they are all similar and this may be helpful.

Wood shark 2150 not oiling

Your model is a 2150LE. There is a Type 1 and 2. The linked IPL is a 2150LE Gas Saw Type 1. Click the "View the illustrated parts list [Go] button here:
http://www.ordertree.com/modelinfo/PWE/2150LE-Gas-Saw-Type-1/75.2150LE-Gas-Saw-Type-1.1.59.1.html
What little detail there is is on the "Handle, Chassis, & Bar" drawing.
A blunted, hooked piece of wire can be used to pull the hose in the oil tank out. I recommend the filter be replaced. Work your way through the linkage cleaning and replacing any defective parts as you go. The oil pump (52) is often behind the clutch. The saw can be operated without the bar and chain to verify oiler operation. GL

Poulan oiler don't work

Common problem with Poulan and Craftsman gas saws. Take off the chain and chain guide and clean out all the saw dust etc. Start saw without chain and look for port where there are signs of oil. If port is clear of sawdust, then it is likely the pump which is located behind the chain break assembly. you can get the diagram on Poulan website and the replacement pump will cost about $15 - $20 to replace yours.

Insufficient chain oiling

Sorry to tell you this but you need a new OIL PUMP but it's not a difficult thing to replace.
On the main shaft of the crank shaft under the centrifugal clutch is a spiral wound wire that matches a plastic part that is the oil pump. You can get the part from Poulan parts and it will take about 15 minutes to fix the first time eight minutes the second time.
Glad to be of assistance.
