Same problem here. Tried resetting...no help. Had a heck of a time finding the reset button too. Tried running the battery dry and recharging...no help. Now I have no letters at all on the keyboard. I'm getting frustrated!!!

My Nuvi keyboard corrupts. Same problem than other people have. Is there a fix?

  • Anonymous Jun 08, 2008

Yeap. After a few months, the keyboad on my Garmin nuvi 200w got mess-up too. I have to try to switch between American and British english keyboard mode for the character to display correctly. Now, even switch is not helping neither. It is getting worst. Any idea how to fix this problem. Thanks.

My 200W has recently developed a problem with the keyboard--it doesn't seem to have one! I have tried several workarounds to no avail. Any ideas? Reseting doesn't seem to help, no matter how many times I tried.

  • Grant909 Jan 18, 2009

I have had the same problem with my 250W. I have not yet tried to hook it up to the USB port, but I assume that will work based on what's been posted here. But my reason for writing is this: I know just enough about programming to be very suspicious that this not just a random "bug" but rather a deliberate degradation (planned obsolescence) introduced by the manufacturer to try to induce owners to buy the database updates at something like $60 a pop. It's hard to explain this weird behavior in any other obvious way. I hope I'm wrong, because that kind of cynical manipulation would be highly unethical, and I would vow to never buy another Garmin product if it ever turned out to be true. Just sayin'.

Me three. Just happened today. The keyboard is missing letters. I'm in the process of letting the battery die and see if that will serve as a hard reset, which it seems like it needs.

I just called them and did even less. He said just plug it in to my computer and it'll happen automatically without going to a web site, and it did! I had never performed a sync or installed any Garmin software before. Also, couldn't find my USB cable, so had to use one from my Logitech/Harmony remote and it still did the trick (i.e. nothing special about the cable, just as an FYI).

He said this should only have to be performed once and it should not be a recurring problem.

Hi Y'all -- I called Garmin today and they said to go to their website www.Garmin.com and load their "Updater". I did and it fixed my keyboard issue. You will need to hook up your Nuvi to a USB port. I had to use the USB cable that came with my wife's digital camera. When you go to the website, go to "support" and then to "updates and downloads". Download the updater and it will make your Nuvi good as new. Good luck!!

Thanks for the help. I was having the same keyboard issue, and all I did to fix the problem was hook the unit up to a USB port, and the problem was fixed.

Go to the Garmin Website, download their "Updater" software, install it, plug your Garmin into an available USB slot on your computer (with a compatible USB cable), run the updater software and it should update the software on your Garmin. The updater mentions there is a problem with earlier versions of the software where the keyboard may get corrupt, and it's fixed with the updated software.

Just connecting the Garmin to the computer via USB fixes the problem, so we don't really know whether the update had any additional effect.

I went to Garmin.com, downloaded the updater and my problem is solved! Thank u TX Slim and all others for posting.

Trying to do a restore of a system image using file history WIN 10. Every time I try this or a system reset, a screen appears which asks me to choose my keyboard layout. How do I select a choice?

in the settings or properties of the keyboard you will find a list of keyboard lay outs
one is british(english) which puts the letters in different positions to an American ( english ) keyboard
If I remember rightly , the list includes keyboards in different languages
select the one suitable for your language ( be careful between the british and american layouts ( both known as qwerty boards) as certain keys and key functions will be different
select what you want, apply and ok

Sony Vaio keyboard repeating letters

Keyboards to wear out, but are not expensive to replace. Multiple key strikes and sticking can be caused by spilling "stuff" into the keyboard, even crumbs will do it.

How many 8 letters arrangement are possible using the letters of the word DECAGON if the letters A,E and O must occupy the third, fifth and sixth positions respectively and the letters remaining may be...

xxAxEOxx where x can be any of the letters in the set {d,c,g,n}.
There are 4 choices for the first x. Once the first x letter is chosen there are 4 choices for the second x, etc. Since you have five x positions to fill , the number of arrangements is 4^5=1024 (product of number of choices in each step). I used the multiplicative principle.
So you have 1024 possible 8 letter arrangements satisfying your conditions. Most of those arrangements are no doubt meaningless in English.

When typing some letters they do othe thing and not type the letter do u know yhy?

Sometimes when you type a key on your keyboard, such as a "/", you might get an accented E, this is because certain QWERTY keyboards are set differently, depending on the region. Information on this can be obtained here:

http://explore.live.com/windows-live-essentials?os=other
To correct this issue, you need to set the Language Bar to a US Layout. Yes, you live in Canada, but your keyboard is not a Canadian-type Keyboard, it's a US Layout, so when setting up your keyboard, make sure you are setting it to English (United States).

You can change this by going to Start, typing in Language, then selecting Region and Language.

In the window that pops up, change the Format to English (United States), then click on that Keyboard and Languages tab and select Change Keyboards. Whatever you see in here, you want to remove it, since multiple keyboards might interfere with what Windows interprets putting into Windows. Before you remove anything though, click on Add, scroll to English (United States) and click on the + to expand it. Click on the + next to Keyboard, then put a check mark next to "US".

Press Okay. You should now see a selection in here that says English (United State) - Keyboard - US. Remove anything above or below that so they don't conflict. Before you exit this window, change the Default Input Language at the top to English (United States) - US. This should make your keyboard more accurate.
If this doesn't resolve the issue you are experiencing, simply return to this page and post a response. I'll be happy to assist you further.

@ appears when pressing shift 2

In american keyboard shift+2 is @, latin-american keyboard shift+2 is ".
Im guessing ur problem is the language setup of ur keyboard, depending on ur OS, go to control panel, Clock, Language and Region, Change keyboard or other input methods, Change keyboards and there u got to add urs :D,
Sometimes it switches back to english, so if u want to make sure it doesnt happen, after u add ur keyboard language, remove the other one that u dont need.

My Garmin Nuvi 350 sound not working

I had this problem with the 760. Solved by going to settings>language and discovering I had no choice for "voice". I pressed that selection and picked american english and my problem was solved. Garmin support said sometimes the program gets corrupted and that choice needs to be made again.
