Question about Sylvania 6260VF VCR

Tracking We figured out how to adjust the tracking manually but it still has a streak at the top of the screen. It sometimes loses the sound and goes to black and white for only a few seconds. What do you think this may be?

A CONSTANT streak anywhere on the screen could be a scratch in the tape itself. Losing sound, and ocassionally everything going to black and white, sounds like a dirty control track head.(The audio and control track are in the SAME head (a 3/4" metal cube that the videotape travels on). The control track section is on the upper part, and the audio on on the lower part.

If the control track head's dirty I'm sure the rotary head's dirty too! Losing audio and have tracking problems, point to dirt. And you MAY have SO much dirt built up on that head it's scatching your tapes (unrepairable), and causing you problems. Make sense?

Most VCR's have manual tracking. Generally it will use a set of keys on the remote used by another function. Often the channel up down keys! This will also apply to the controls on the video itself.

Bad tracking is also caused by dirt one the heads or tape path. So clean the machine first before adjusting the tracking.

Most Sanyo VCR's have auto tracking, but pressing the + or - buttons on the remote during playback should correct any noise problems. Though sometimes bad tracking is caused by dirt on the video head.

Where is the tracking on this VCR toshiba w403?

On this unit there is no manual tracking button - it's done automatically by a special circuit that uses the special signal from the tracks themselves. If the tracking is bad then the heads are dirty and they don't pick that special signal.
Clean them with a special cleaning tape. If you can't source one the unit will have to be dismantled and the 4 heads will have to be manually cleaned with a q-tip moist with alcohol.

I am having problems with the tracking at the top of the screen. This was given to me so I have no remote. Is there anything I can do without the remote?

First make certain the video heads are clean. If OK then most VCR use the up down TV channel selector to adjust the VCR tracking when in play. To test put in a good tape and play it, then keep your finger on either up or down button. If it works it should stop tracking properly (pressing the other control will bring it back).

Tracking will not adjust, continues to roll, have tried manual tracking adjustment with remote, does not work, wondering if I need to clean or adjust something internal to the VCR

Yes take the top cover off and give all the heads etc a spray with Servisol Video 40. That might make a differance. Allow to dry before trying a tape! If the house has a smoker you might need to do a lot of work!

Can't figure out how to adjust VCR tracking

Hello,

Open the player, use cotton wool and methylated spirit to clean the play head of your tape player and the picture will be clear. It is dirt that is making the picture shaky.

Its not all the time that tracking can solve the problem. So clean the player's play head and all will be well.

Please don't apply too much spirit and make sure you dry it with a dry wool. Also make sure the player is turned off and removed from electricity before you proceed for the cleaning.

This is the help that I can render to you.

Good luck.

Sharp VC-A582 I need a little help adjusting the tracking on my VCR, model Sharp VC-A582. I just acquired this unit and did successfully watch one tape for hours, then must have touch a wrong button by...

I couldn't find anything on your VCR either. But from personal experience I know that a lot of manufacturers use the channel up/down buttons on the face of the VCR as tracking controls while a tape is running.

My suggestion is to start a tape and then press the channel up or down button on the frnt of the VCR for a few seconds and see if it adjusts the tracking.

Hope this helps you out.

This type of problem may be caused by a dirty video head, people some time try to adjust tracking to take care of this problem this is a mistake. Now to clear up this issue first you put the tracking control mid way in its setting, then you clean the heads of the VCR you can use a head cleaning tape (follow the instructions on the cleaning tape box)for this or if you have experience you use a chamois swab type cleaner (follow the instructions on the package of swabs and liquid cleaner). one the heads are cleaned you acn then try to adjust track to obtain the best picture. If you can not you may have video head problems or a problem in the drum motor (servo) mechanism. In which case I advise taking the unit to a TV repair shop.
