Memory Dump/ Not Turning On

I synched some files to my Toshiba Gigabeat (30 G) and it was working fine. But then, while I was using it, the device gave me a message that it had found a virus and was going to delete all the files off of itself in order to protect its memory/ operating system. ow it will not charge, turn on, or anything- through USB or wall charger. Anyone got a solution or idea what's wrong? My Gigabeat S30 worked fine until this afternoon when I turned it off in mid-track and it failed to turn on again a half hour later. The charge battery indicator doesn't go on with either USB or wall charger, and all the buttons are dead. Nada. Any idea what's wrong?

Hi,

Based on your post/description, let's try the easy ones first:
1. have you tried switching it off with the master slide at the bottom?
2. have you tried switching chargers, USB from PC to AC or vice-versa?
3. have you tried switching it off for a couple of hours (overnight would be better)?
4. have you tried removing the battery?
5. have you tried connecting it to a PC?

Pls post back additional information and will work from thereon.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

The virus may have messed up your gigabeat take out the battery and put it back see what happens.
Then , if it still doesnt start try to connect it to pc if you can see it on pc then you can reinstall firmware. The virus may have blown the firmware.

If you have a spare battery check also that the battery is not gone.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Gigabeat S Series firmware restore

I just solved the same problem yesterday. When you download the firmware, save it to yur desktop and burn a CD because the gigabeat won't get it unless there is an actual CD in the rom.

Now, connect the gigabeat to the computer and let the firmware install. The unit will automatically restart twice. Here's the tricky part. You have to hold down the start button on the device until you see the start screen. (It took awhile for me to figure that out!)

After I saw the start screen, I saw that all my files were there! YAY

Frozen

i'm thinking the hard drive is messing up... you know when i dropped my gigabeat S30 it wasn't working n it was freezing and the video files weren't playing at all. it would freeze when i turn on or play video. then i turned it off and then back on using the battery switch. it said "contact the manufacturer for repair" with a yield sign. i really thought i killed it...but i still had my hopes high to fix it myself somehow n i really thought it was from the hard drive. so i took it in my hand and gave it a shake on my palm. like i actually hit it on my palm for once n then i turned it on and it worked =D fineee.... i was so happy n now it still works fine ;)

i hope that helps

Gigabeat windows gone

Try formatting the drive. Use either RealPlayer, Windows Media Player or Media Monkey to synchronize your music. You can drag and drop, but I dont advise that as I believe that leads to crash and format itself. DO NOT remove the USB cable while it is uploading. If you need to stop synching, you must first close the programe you're using before disconnecting.

Cannot view Gigabeat s30 as a drive letter (e.g. D,E etc)

Hey JayMac, Your s30 is not possible to map it to a drive letter. The reason ? cause your s30 and the other brothers of your mp3 are MTP class mp3's. Meaning that they are Media Transfer Protocol mp3's, so you can only transfer media files. If your mp3 player would be a USB Mass Storage Device, like alot of other mp3's, well you would've been able to recover you're files. But until now, the answer is no you can't recover the files just becauses of that stupid invention of Microsoft, the MTP.

Try formatting, synch your library using a synch software like media player, realplayer, media monkey etc. Do not remove the USB if it is 'Updating'.
