I took the computer to an qualified computer technician and they had no idea either which they sent me to this site because it would not take a regular monitor either. they thought it was a short of some kind because the monitor comes on and off when it fills like it.. sometime booting all the way and other times not booting all the way or not coming on at all. tried it two days ago again and it came on and stalled and when turned off it is difficult to just turn off need to hold the power button longer just to turn off sometimes. the tech thinks I should just get another laptop? I want to try the first solution to take the ram out and clean it and the second thing i would try is an inverter if neither works I will never buy another ACER again

What is the make and model of the laptop? It could be a bad inverter, and the easiest way to tell is to plug a regular monitor into it (if it has the appopriate port). If the regular monitor works fine, then it's probably a bad inverter and you should send it to be serviced.

Screen not coming in compac 420

Is it a Laptop? You have posted in the PC-Desktop category. Has it been damaged? Dropped? Has the laptop been overheating? Does it need cleaning, fan, vents, heatsink? If it's a Laptop it could be a couple of things, a loose connection, bad inverter, backlighting, the screen itself, or the switch the controls the on/off of the monitor when the lid is opened or closed. Have you connected to a External Monitor to see if the problem follows? Try booting to Safe Mode, any change? You can take a look at this video for a start, it may help troubleshoot: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Yi6GNFcP3w If you are not comfortable with opening the Laptop, take it to a Qualified Computer Tech.

When i turn on my client pro 434 it comes on the desktop top shows for like 45 seconds,it then goes completely black, but when i connect it to another monitor it works fine.

In that case the screen backlighting is faulty  - take out the cover of the pc and check all connections to the inverter and the CCFL tubes. If the connections are OK then check the inverters themselves - a capacitor has aged and its resistance drops as it heats up shorting the tubes.

My averatec lcd won't stay on

Can you try your monitor on another computer to see if it does this there as well? Usually this happens only when video is not detected coming from the PC. It could be as simple as a short in the monitor cable. If you have it connected to a laptop you'll also want to check you control panel power setting rules and then the screen saver under display.

I seems a little odd that that your affect him monitor, the only thing I can think of is if he was holding the compressed air can upside down he might have shorted something out, but that shouldn't be reflected in the display. Have him try unplugging and plugging his monitor back in at the computer and the monitor, maybe something else got jiggled.

When i switch on a repeating beep comes from the tower and the monitor does not come on . Hope you can help. Sean

Seems like one memory module is faulty/damaged. But BEFORE trashing the module, clean the slots and the chips and try them again. In some Compaqs the processor fan sends the dust to the memory banks producing shorts. You can learn about the beep codes here.

My Dad bought a NEC 1700v Monitor about 5 years ago. Its a good monitor and the picture/color is still good but it blacks out after it shows desktop for about 10 seconds. To get it to come back on, can...

This is a CRT monitor right? Do not open the case! There is high voltage stored in a capacitor somewhere in there and you could get zapped. You can buy good used monitors at Goodwill or a computer re-cycler for $20.00. If yours lasted five years you got your moneys worth. Did this monitor work correctly on other computers? If it did maybe you have a problem with your graphics card or something in the computer itself. Try a different monitor on your computer. If everything is OK with a different monitor then you know that your computer is good and that is not the problem.

I have a ViewSonic VE175 monitor, which has a damaged monitor cord; some of the pins have broken off. Is it possible to repair or is not cost effective and that I should go and purchase a new monitor. ...

This is a sad way for computer manufacturers to get you to buy another monitor when the cord is bad. Some monitors have detachable cords that you can purchase at many big box stores for a reasonable price.

The short answer is no - the average person cannot repair this themselves UNLESS you have a familiarization of electronics and know what to buy and repair on the back of the monitors.

This takes a lot of time out of your day to replace a monitor cord thats permanently fixed to the back of the montior.

My long term solution to you is go and purchase yourself a flat panel monitor which has dropped in price, and make sure you have a detachable cord on that model so you can easily replace it in the future should it becomed damaged.
