Dell D600 latitude will not power up

Will not POST
Battery,Charger,HDD good
Worked at 1:00pm powered down than at 4:00pm would not power up. In between times computer just sat on desk.
Pressing power button & F12 key at same time causes battery light (right side) to come on RED & fan to run for about 10-15 secs than it turns off.
Tried removing battery run on charger same result
When pressing power button (Cap,Num.lock, scrol lock lights) along with HDD light on far right side come on for 2-4 secs than go off.
Removed memory,HDD,cd drive same result
What else can I try & have you ever heard of this problem before.

press start button. computer starts up, fan comes on, for 5 seconds and then computer shuts down but you can still hear the HDD running. Screen never turns on. Cant shut off computer unless you take battery out and disconnect the power cable.

Press power button. Computer starts up. NO lights light up except the power button is on steadily. Fan turns on for about 5 seconds and then computer shuts down. You can hear the HDD running. Only way to turn computer OFF is to take the battery out of it and disconnect the power cord.

I had similar problem on a used D600 I bought. Would power up when cold, but not boot immediately after shutting down (would restart okay). Indicator lights (3) and power light came on for a few seconds then all went off. Found what seems to work at another site. Not a fix, but a workaround: Hold F7 and F8 while pressing the power button. Like magic. Still, Caps Lock, Num Lock and 3rd light (scroll lock?) have been and still are non-responsive most of the time, but I can live with that. Hope this helps someone.

This appears to be a fairly common problem with this and some other Dell laptops. The problem is one or more poor (probably solder) connections between the power button and the circuit board below. Pressing and holding F8 & F9 and sometimes F9 & F10 and then pressing the power button work better. Can press down on panel just to the right of the power button and make the three indicator lights work, too.

Why my lap top battery power goes off soon while starting?

These laptops are notorious for developing battery issues. We've got one at our house that would basically be a paperweight without a charger and external monitior. The best fix for this is to buy a new battery.

My Laptop (Dell Latitude D600) when I'm trying to turn it on, can not swicthing on and no effect can show me that power is entring. I thounght that is charger problem and I trayed to use the same charger...

Try this, Unplug the power and remove the battery, while the battery and power are unhooked hold the power button down for 30 seconds, Put the battery back in and make sure you slide the locking tap to lock the battery in, try to start the computer, If it doesn't start, plug the power cord in and wait 3 minutes and try to start it, If it still will not start it has an internal issue and needs to be repaired.

I have a Dell Latitude D600 power problem. When the AC charger is connected the unit will power down by itself within 10 secs the most. If no AC charger connected, the unit is fine.

Please try removing the battery then attached the ac adapter and see if the same thing happens. It is possible that the AC adapter is faulty already if it doesn't isolate the issue. Please let me know if the result. Thank you and regards.

Have battery and plug in for laptop. the laptop begin to start with the Dell page, then shuts off. the battery icon shows red like charging but them just shuts off . If I take battery out, no power at all.

This sounds like a problem with the AC charger not providing enough power. The battery never charges enough to maintain power during boot. See if you can borrow a charger to check (maybe from a local shop), or buy one (since you'll probably need one anyway). Don't over pay. I see them on eBay for $12 or so. I bought one recently from a local shop for $25. That should give you a ballpark price. Post your zip code, maybe someone here can help you.

Latitude d600 will not power up. Battery and charger are good

If the system will not power on with a known good power source, then you need to remove the drives, RAM, modem and Wireless cards, then try to power on with just the AC adapter.

If the system still fails to attempt to POST, then it will need a motherboard. If you get Lock Light LEDs and beeps, then put RAM back in the system, and try to start it again. If still no video or power indications, replace motherboard.

Dell latitude D600 problem

The flashing caps lock is an indication of a failed POWER on Self-Test (POST)

Remove the HDD, Battery, AC adapter, RAM and Modem

Press and hold power button for 15 seconds

Connect AC, see if you get any beep codes. If you do, power off, disconnect power, insert RAM, connect AC and reboot. If system boots, power off and add hard drive. If it doesn't, replace the motherboard.

If the system boots with RAM, but fails to boot with HDD, replace HDD 1st.

Dell Latitude D600 Wont Start

I would suggest removing the battery, then try powering the unit on. Many laptops will not start if the battery voltage is too low. Many batteries will read a lower voltage than minimal when they are at or near the end of their service life.
