If you have an volt meter, do check for 12volts DC . Otherwise the GPS unit is defective and highly technical

The power socket in gps unit may be faulty , preventing it from charging. Did you try to leave it connected for a while?
If it is still under guarantee contact authorized service center or bring it back to dealer.

Will no longer switch on. Don

What happens when you plug it into the car charger? If nothing, then try restarting the unit.
Slide the power switch to the right (off) position. Then slide it to what might be called the "start" position. (The middle is "on," but there's a position to the far left that is much like the start position on your automobile ignition switch.) Hold it there until the unit starts to reboot, then release it (back to "on").

Good luck.

When I plug in my vehicle power supply into my nuvi 250 gps, the computer symbol appears on the screen and my map will not return until I unplug the power source and turn on and off the gps unit. How do I...

This may be happening if you are connecting the GPS to the vehicle power source via USB cable, instead of the supplied power cord & cradle. If this is the case, try again not using the USB connection method.

Nothing Happens

This happens when the GPS unit is completely discharged. Try charging the GPS unit from an external source (USB from your PC or 5V USB power adopter). After a full charge, if the GPS unit powers on then something is wrong with the power cable or the 12V plug and you need to replace it.

My nuvi 780 suddenly won't power on. Used it this morning and then a short while later it's broken!

Solution A:

1. Disconnect from power source (automobile cradle and/or usb cable)
2. Slide the power button right into the lock position.
3. Slide the power button to the left and hold it for 10 seconds.
4. Your unit should have powered on after you released the power button

Solution B:

1. Disconnect from power source (automobile cradle and/or usb cable)
2. Slide the power button right into the lock position.
3. Apply light pressure anywhere on the touch screen with your finger.
3. Slide the power button to the left and hold it for 10 seconds.
4. Your unit should have powered on after you released the power button

This worked for me... hope it works for you. - Happy Holidays!

WE CHARGE THE MAGELLAN GPS AND TURN IT OFF. BUT WHEN WE GO TO USE IT AGAIN IT IS DEAD. I ONLY HAVE THE LIGHTER OUTLET TO HOOK UP FOR POWER SO WHEN I NEED TO PROGRAM IT IN THE HOUSE I DO NOT HAVE A WAY TO...

Hello kdiltzbook,

Most GPS units can be charged three different ways:

1. Connection to a computer via USB port
2. Connection to a automobile via cigarette lighter plug
3. Connection to a wall outlet via an AC adapter

Typically most GPS devices these days include only the USB cord. Some GPS units also include the cigarette lighter plug. For most GPS units the cigarette lighter plug and AC adapter are optional accessories have to be purchased in addition to the GPS.

You don't mention which model of Magellan GPS you have so I am not sure which cords your GPS should have included. It sounds like you have the cigarette lighter cord and the USB cord? I am sure that Magellan has an AC adapter available for your GPS. You will want to contact them directly (their website is http://www.magellangps.com) or visit an electronics store that sells Magellan GPS receivers (such as Best Buy™) to purchase the adapter.

However, most GPS receivers can be charged from the USB programming cord on the computer. However, ensure you are plugging the cord directly into a USB 2.0 on the computer itself NOT a port on a USB hub. (A USB hub may not output enough power to actually power and charge the GPS.)

You will also want to check and replace the fuse on the automobile plug.

I believe that both the USB and automobile cords should be charging the GPS. If neither adapter is charging the unit then the problem may be the GPS unit itself. The GPS may have a bad battery or problem with its charge circuitry. If that’s the case the unit may require factory service as the battery pack is generally not considered to be end user replaceable.

GARMIN STREET PILOT-330 GPS

Hello KTFORE1,

The Street Pilot 330 comes with both a vehicle power cord and a USB cord for connecting the unit to the computer. If I understand you correctly the GPS isn't getting power from the vehicle power cord. Does the GPS charge if connected to a computer using the USB cable? If so the problem is likely the power cord or cigarette lighter socket you are using. If the GPS doesn't charge from USB port on your computer then the problem is likely the GPS itself.

If you determine that the cable is the source of the problem, check and replace the cable's fuse. You will probably also want to check and replace your vehicle fuses as the circuit that powers the cigarette lighter might have a blown fuse. If replacing the fuses doesn't solve the issue then you might need to replace the power cord.

Best Regards.

Lost power- will not come back on

If you have a multimeter you should be able to check the out voltage on the powersupply to make sure the power cable isn't at fault. You may also try wigling the power cord a little bit to see if the unit will then get power. If so you have a faulty powercord. If there are any fuses they should usually be accessible from the outside; that's the point with them - they should be easy to change. I would put my money on the power cable. If you have access to a diferent power source try that out. If the unit works with a different power source your power source is at fault. If it still doesn't work the problem is within your unit. Check to see if any pins on the power source and/or the units power plug might be bent or dirty.
