The DVD skips about half way through a program. The same DVD works fine in our desktop computer. Can this problem be fixed? If so, how?

Is the lens dirty? and what type of DVD disc are you useing?

The sofware is too heavy for your computer . You can improve it's function buy setting the quality to a lower level , it will record smootherly but of course the image will be less sharp .
I experienced my self that the best way to succeed in recordong video tapes or tv programs is to use a stand alone recorder .

Try rebooting your computer and close all programs that start. Running a video requires memeory and all the programs running in the background use this memory.

Also, make sure the DVD player is clean. You can clean with a can of air and spray the dust from the inside. No need to open case. The laser can have dust on it which causes skipping.

Jensen used to be total junk, but over the years they decided to invest in their junk somewhat. If it plays fine when sitting still then I say dont listen to it and drive at the same time... or buy a better unit. srry...

This could be many things- so-

I am assuming it is not just one cd.

If you are running more than one thing at a time it could be your computer memory. Windows media player skips when you have less memory available to use.

Some things that can determine speed.
1. how old your computer is
2. processor speed
3. actual memory
4. size of hard drive
and many other problems can cause theses issues

Now, what can you do to help solve them without spending money?

a few things.

These are things to try, some will work better than others. It depends

on what you want from your PC.

1. go to safemode-
clean disk- uninstall every program you don't use or haven't used in

the last six months - and don't plan to use in the future.

DELETE PROGRAMS- BUT NOT FILES THAT YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY DO. THAT

COULD BE VERY BAD.

Using the clean disk in accessories is fine

Then Defragment your disk

Do this in safe mode

this will take hours


Reboot after complete

Next go to My computer- right click and go to properties.

Click on advanced

Click on adjust for best performance

And one more thing you can try-

When you are doing one thing that is important- I.E. not good for listening to music and surfing net- but good for watching movie

The Audio file may not be supported on the DVD player, or try another disk in the DVD player (another movie) see if the sound still skips

you could check the red and white audio cables (or HDMI if you have it) make sure they are not loose or disconnected

you need to get your dvd player`s lens cleaned try to purchase or barrow a cd lens cleaner...

I think that this is the laser unit as I have three of these units and I have swapped everything but the laser unit.
