Color washed out

If the tv has a blue haze and the picture is turning greenish-redish, the problem is that the coolant in the crt's are cloudy due to bacterial growth. The fluid needs changed in the Blue and possibly Green tubes, the red tube usaly does not need the fluid change because the bacteria that seems to inabit the tubes dont seem to like the red light.

To do this yourself is involved and will expose you to electric shock dangers. If you want to tackle this yourself Post back and i can give you explisit instructions.

This service by a Technican could cost around $300.00 to preform, this cost can vary depending on the shop.

Blue haze on the lower part of rear Projection TV

Your TV most likely has one or more possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

Screen hazzy and issue with blue convergence

bad convergence would cause show to look as if it was supposed to be a 3-d movie, if a bulb was going out then people would look purple blue -green,or some other off color, so likely the green bulb is going out from the color of the people you described.

You have contaminated coolant fluid in the blue and green picture tubes.I do not reccomend that you attempt this repair.A shop should be able to get this unit looking like new again for about $275.

to find the cross hairs, you need to go into the menu, and find the convergence. In the main menu you need to select picture and then go to more and you will find the convergence. If this does not work to fix the problem with the color, you may have to have the coolant changed.

Yellow haze

Hi...the yellow haze is probably the blue filter is burnt and needs replaced. This is very common in Zeniths. There are 3 color filters in the Zeniths blue (pinkish in color), green (grayish in color) and the red (it is red). The #1 problem in this TV is the blue filter is burnt and it is an easy fix. It could also be the LCD cube is bad. I would try the blue filter replacement first. It will probably do the trick.

Green dot in middile of my screen

The green dot in the center sounds like a burn mark on one or more of the picture tubes inside the set, and the curved lines are telling me that you have a problem in the convergence circuits. The blue haze around everything white tells me you either have a lot of dust build up on the lens over the CRTs, or your picture tube(s) are very weak. If this set is over about 12 years old, I would replace it. I doubt if you will be able to get the green dot out of the picture without changing the tubes which would be VERY expensive.
