Question about Maytag 24 in. MDBH955AW Built-in Dishwasher

Just not cleaning

I am a stickler about loading my dishwasher properly but even so it seems to leave a grainy sand like residue on many of the dishes like it is not getting rid of the dirty water between cycles the dishes constantly seem to have a what looks like a cream of wheat substance on them and we don't eat cream of wheat. I have disassembled the plastic water supply arm and the water jet arms attached to it (not sure of the technical names) and found heavy deposits of this wheatena like substance to clean out. Each time I hope the dishes will come out clean but they never do. I use a gell cleaner in the unit.

Same issue - have tried the vinegar and also dishwashwer magic. Even when all the dishes rinsed prior to loading, there is a sandy residue left - particularly on inside of glasses on top shelf.

We have tried the above but still problems. Could it be that the pump is clogged and how do we fix that?

Run a cycle thru with no dishes and 2 cups of vingar this will flush out the unit then run a normal load should be ok let me know THERE also is a product called dishwasher magic you can run that thru as well but the vingar is cheaper

I found this on ehow I believe it will help. How to Troubleshoot Dishwasher Residue By Dale Yalanovsky eHow Contributor

5Found This HelpfulGeorge Doyle/Stockbyte/Getty images
Dishwater residue is a fairly common occurrence, and several things can cause it. Even the newest dishwashers may leave residue, and it might have nothing to do with the actual dishwasher function itself. However, there are things you can do to prevent, limit or completely remove dishwasher residue during every washing cycle.

Other People Are Reading

  1. Detergent Residue
    • Modern phosphate-free detergents are the main culprits when it comes to detergent residue. After every wash, many leave a slight whitish residue behind. After several washings, the residue becomes caked on and leaves a noticeable white tint to your dishes. Some dishwasher detergent brands are better than others, and either minimize residue or do not leave any. Once residue is present, however, the only way to remove it is by hand scrubbing or scraping.
    Hard-Water Residue
    • Hard-water residue comes from non-softened water from your hot water tank. Non-softened water leaves a white tint on dishes, but no amount of scrubbing will remove it. Only by wiping a small patch of the dish with vinegar or lemon juice will you be able to ascertain whether the white residue left is hard water or detergent. The slight acidic action of the vinegar or lemon juice removes hard-water stains, but they have no effect on detergent residue.
    Greasy Residue
    • If the dishes feel greasy when they come out of the dishwasher freshly washed, you are dealing with a greasy residue. There are two main reasons for this: either the detergent is not an effective grease remover, or the hot water inside of the dishwasher, either from the hot water tank or the dishwasher's heating elements, is not hot enough. Boosting the hot water temperature on the water tank may solve the problem, and a second wash cycle may be needed for the dishes. A preventive measure of running the dishwasher empty with a full load of detergent also removes the residue inside of the dishwasher.
    Streaking and Spotting Residue
    • If you have spotting or streaking on your dishes, that may be a sign you need a rinse agent. Many modern dishwashers recommend a rinse agent to prevent spotting or streaking, and without one, your dishes will never be crystal clear or streak-free. The next time you do a dishwasher load, add a rinse agent. If the dishes come out spot- and streak-free, the problem is solved.

Not washing properly.fills and water circulates but does not always dissolve all of tablet and does not clean both top and bottom shelves. checked arms clear. What next?

Hi,
There is not enough salt in the dishwasher & that is what causes the sand like residue on dishes. Sometimes even when you use an all in 1 dishwasher tablet this may still not contain enough salt for the hardness of the water in your area. Using salt regular helps keep the dishwasher clean. The problem is hard water going into your dishwasher. it leaves the residue you are talking about. There is a new affordable product called the dishwasher filtration system it filters out the hard minerals that cause this before they enter your dishwasher leaving your dishes spot free with every load. You can get it at www.dishwasherfilter.com.

My Bosch shu 42 just stopped cleaning. there is soap residue also on the dishes. It doesn't seem to be getting really hot water. We cleaned the filter and made sure it was loaded correctly.

When the heating element fails on dishwashers, the wash cycle water can not be heated high enough the activate the DW detergent powder.

Replacing the heating element should fix you right up.

Also, resist the temptation to switch the a cheap, generic powder. A brand name e.g. Electrosol or Cascade powder is proven to work well. The ultra-cheap powder will leave white patches on the dishes and it will not dissolve completely, even when the heating element is working properly.

Good Luck!

Our GE dishwasher does not seem to be rinseing the dishes very well, can you help? thank you

many things can cause washabilty issues: check drain line for high loop it should not go down right out of the garbage disposal it should go up first, too much soap and too clean of dishes at the beginning leaves soap residue,if you clean or rinse the dishes well before you even load them back way off on the soap.

Most dishwashers have a little filter basket in the bottom. Depending on the brand, you can slide out the bottom rack, and in the bottom underneath the sprayer (the propeller thing) there should be some sort of basket that can be removed and cleaned. You also may have some water quality issues, or some detergents will leave residue. Also, make sure most of the large food is removed before loading.
