Since you didn't specify what windws version I'm assuming XP.
lets Reinstall the current driver.
Start button>right click on My computer>Select properties>click on the hardware tab>click the device manager button>expland/click on the sound hardware.
Wirte down the name that appears.
Right click on the audio selection>select remove/uninstall.
Restart the computer
After restarting the computer should automatically reinstall the correct driver.
If it doesn't, got to the Compaq website and to the support/drivers link and download the correct driver.
