Hi there hope you can help me please i have a toshiba 40ins projection tv i turn it on its ok then every so often the screen will get colored lines through the screen horizontally then i will turn it off and back on then its ok till it does it again
Re: toshiba 40pw8db with colored lines horizontally
There are some boards in the tv that plug in (push down) have the power off and unplugged have a look around, and see if any boards have come loose, stay away from any thick red wires (EHT) DO NOT PULL At the Gray Rubber Caps that go to each gun (tube) RED GREEN Blue, this can carry a heavey charge even if the tv is off and has been for days, regards mark

Look through your manual. Your manual will always give you the most specific directions for your particular model. Look for an "adjusting convergence" or "set manual convergence" section.
Enter the menu on your TV. Use the remote control and bring up the menu.
Choose "Convergence." This may be under "Picture Settings," "Function" or "Advanced Options."
Select a color. You will have red, green and blue to choose from. Do each one, starting with red.
Press "Enter." A crosshair pattern will appear on your screen.
Adjust vertically. If there is a horizontal red line visible, press the up or down arrow keys (or channel up or down) to adjust the convergence until the line is superimposed on the horizontal-center line of the white crosshair.
Adjust horizontally. If there is a vertical red line visible, press left or right (or volume up or down) to adjust horizontally. Do this until the line is superimposed on the vertical line of the white crosshair.
Save settings. It is important to save your settings when you are done, instead of simply exiting the menu.
what this sounds like is that you may have a cable in the wrong part of the tv like maybe a vcr or audio cable check your inputs in the back of your tv that sounds like it what it might be i have a big screen tv and if i have a cable in the wrong part it will hiss and have lines on it too i hope this can help if not reply to me at Jonk3y @aol.com
Hi, I used to work in Best Buy and one of the key things about rear projection TVs and the reason they push those service plans on you is that the tubes/colors need to be calibrated each year. You can do this yourself by checking out the following website:

you have a convergence problem it will require a couple new ics its best to replace as a pair stk392-110 although i recommed using the stk392-150 as a replacement and also there are some jumpers that should be resolderd on those boards to assure continued operation hope this helps you
the problem is going to be a bad NEXT HYPER UNIT module. this is the digital scan card in the tv. try using the componenet inputs and if the tv works ok then you know that the HYPER UNIT is the problem. the reapir process for a "do-it-yourselfer" is too involved and would recommend a serivce center for this repair.
