Dell 8400 dimension desktop on start up the fan runs at top speed like a jet engine taking off, and power light is constant amber with a blank screen. I have removed ram and grafics card etc and replaced...

Your power supply or motherboard has a problem. You can try getting a power supply on the internet ( $25 to $75) first. If no go then motherboard (about $100 to $200 ). The 8400 is about 6 years old which is the average lifespan of computers. One last thing you can try is removing the heatsink assembly and re-seating the processor. You have to clean the old thermal compound from the CPU chip and heat sink and reapply the compound (thermal paste). You might be better off buying a new computer from Walmart.

The mainboard problem.. no display.... how to fix it? tq

There are two reasons you will not get a display from the mainboard, the first is RAM and the second is Processor. If it is RAM the scren will not light up at all, you might also get long beeps. If the problem is a processor the screen will be blank and nothing will happen.

This is apart from the obvious power supply and screen issues. If you have checked these things it is possible the main board has failed and needs replacement.

Acer computer wont trun on

Hi,

My name is ArmyMason, I think I have an answer for you. You seem to have one of two issues, the most likely issue you are experiencing with your Acer is a bad Power Supply. The only fan you are hearing is the Power Supply fan and no beeps its the Power Supply. If its was the fan on the processor you heard it could mean the Processor is bad. If this is a brand new computer I would most likely put my money on it being the Power Supply. A relativity cheap fix.

Thanks,
ArmyMason

Main board won't power up

You may need to reset your processor and heatsink. Sometimes the thermal gel between the processor and the hearsink will evaporate over time and cause this problem. Try appling more thermal grease, reseat the processor.heatsink and try again, (When you do this, also clear your BIOS setting by using the Clear BIOS jumper and remove the CMOS battery for 3 to 5 minutes. Replace all prior to restart.) Good Luck.

Computer wont boot, only fan running

check the (memory) ram chip, keyboards, and mouse for faults then try again.

Most time beeps indicate memory errors
