Power-off your cable-modem (or DSL-modem).
Use an Ethernet cable to connect from the modem to the WAN port on your router.
Use another Ethernet cable to connect from one LAN port on your router to the network-port on your computer (desktop/laptop).
Turn the modem on.
Turn the router on.
Turn the computer on.
Click Start
Click Run
Type CMD
Press Enter
Type IPCONFIG
Press Enter
Look for output like:
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 1234.678.0.1
Start Internet Explorer
Type
http://1234.678.0.1
to access the web-server "inside" the router.
Run the Network Setup Wizard.
Run the Wireless Networking Setup Wizard,
to pick an SSID, an encryption-level (use 'WPA')
and to pick a network-password.
Now, you can disconnect the Ethernet cable from the computer, and try using the wireless-adapter inside your computer.
