If you use SHIFT-PRTSC, Windows should save the current screen to the Clipboard. You can then Paste this into a program like MS Paint, PaintShopPro, etc., and print it from there.

Why doesn't my print screen button work?

Hi

The PrtSc (Print Screen) key when pressed will seem to do nothing but it does when you hit the key it puts a copy of your current screen to the clipboard.

To prove this do as below

1 press the Prtsc button on your desktop
2 Load paint and choose new
3 go to the paste option or press CTRL+V and you should get a copy of your desktop in paint.

I need instructions for using the print screen feature on my L755. I have tried using only "PRTSC" and also have tried "ALT + PRTSC", going to paint, but it will not paste to clipboard.

You should only need to use the 'print screen' key (make sure you have everything you want showing on your screen), then go into your paint programme and press the CTL and v keys at the same time, it should then paste it in. Hope this helps.

Print screen key

print screen key functions differently in different makers in different laptops. I think, in HP if you just press the prtsc key it copies the screen on to the clipboard, then you can just go tto a image app and paste it there. Other makers like Dell and Lenovo would require you to press a combination of Ctrl+Shift+prtsc. Only then the image will be copied to the clipboard.

How do I use the prtsc button on toshiba ? It has END/prtsc. THANKS

If the 2 words written on the key are different colour then you might have to press the Fn key + End/prtsc for one of the options. If they are both the same colour then the Shift key + End/prtsc.

The Fn key has the same colour letters as the key which is pressed with it to perform a particular function.

PRTSC will dump the screen, if you are in Windows. Open Word or another document viewer, press PRTSC and copy the clipboard to Word or whatever programme you use, (right click in the programme and paste).

I had the same problem today but after many tries I figured it out. Press the FN key (next to the left control) and the End button.

Long story short:

What does the key with the letters PrtSc SysRq on an acer aspire do (whats its function)

if you hit just the prtsc sysrq button and open up a blank paint document, you can paste an entire screenshot into a picture document. if you hit control alt prtsc (It's short for print screen) you can take a screenshot of just the current window.

Cannot save Window screen image with Alt-PrtScr

if there is an 'fn' key on your keyboard then your combo would be
fn+prtsc+alt - to capture top windows and fn+prtsc to capture entire screen
If however your prt sc key is combined with another key and written on top then you need to use
shift+prt sc + alt to capture top windows and shift+prtsc to capture entire screen
